NEW YORK There's a new addition to the McDonald's menu that will provide another option for people who want to have a "healthier" fast food experience.
McDonald's is rolling out a yolk-free version of its Egg McMuffin this spring. The world's biggest hamburger chain had previously said the "Egg White Delight" would be made with a whole grain muffin, Canadian bacon and white cheddar cheese, clocking in at 260 calories. A regular Egg McMuffin has 300.
According to the McDonald's webpage, the egg whites will be grilled and will be sandwiched by 8 grams of whole grains. The Canadian bacon is extra lean as well.
The Oak, Brook, Ill.-based chain announced that it was testing the breakfast sandwich last year. It was revealed as part of the company's announcement that it would begin posting calorie counts on menu nationwide ahead of a new federal regulation.
The move was also intended to address criticism that fast-food chains such as McDonald's Corp. contribute to rising obesity rates and appeal to customers looking for healthier menu options.

Danya Proud, a spokeswoman for McDonald's, said people will be able to request egg whites for other breakfast sandwiches too.
The launch date was reported earlier by The Daily Meal, a website that covers food news.

- Can this get any dumber? Eggs and the yolk in particular, are the healthiest foods you can eat!

- Hey "Weight Watchers" folks, you need the yolk to help digest the white and saturated fat to utilize all fat soluble vitamins. An egg is not one of nature's most perfect whole foods by accident! Chuck those "Egg Beaters" and the highly touted "artery clogging" tub margarine while you are at it as well.

- There is nothing wrong with an egg yolk. If you take that away, then you're taking away a lot of nutrients. I think I'll pass on this.

- Correct, and when are mainstream 'nutritionists' going to finally admit they have been WRONG for over 50 years?

- I agree, who cares about macronutrient grams and ingredients, it only has a 250 calories and would only be half or even more than half of what I need to consume as a runner. A calorie is a calorie, science has proven it. If you don't believe me, look up the doctor who lost weight and brought his cholestorol down by eating only junk (but keeping records of how much he eats). It is not what we eat that is hurting us, we need to get that through our thick skulls, its how much we eat vs how much we burn. Its because people who are sedentary are eating the amount of calories a hardcore athlete needs, that is why people are getting fat. The average American eats between 3000-3200 calories a day, while that is a must requirement for a very active individual (such as mysef) it is way too much for the average american that gets NO exercise

- Hay, I gotta nick for it: "McRubber", but good for "Weight Watchers" type fare? Want something good at a takeaway? I like the chick filet sandwitch; sans the buns, or the Arby's Double-Stacked-Ruben with horsey sauce ... yum

- So you get a sugar filled wholegrain muffin, some tasteless hamish faux bacon, reconstituted powdered egg whites, and some fat filled bleached tasteless cheese. Why am I not hungry?

- Regarding the cheese, at least it's not American "cheese," the worst "food" ever. While I generally loathe McD's, this doesn't look as bad as their regular fare.

- There was an incident some years ago at a famous Sydney pub where a family were served a piece of human crap mixed into their chocolate ice cream desert. What Im saying is crap dressed up as tasty looking is still crap. And yes I agree, Americans should be banned from making cheese. "You remember my chesewhiz boy".

- It's not the yolk that will kill you -- it's those so called "Healthy Grains" which cause debates, obesity and heart disease. An egg is an natural whole food. Nutritionists and vegans pushing the ubiquitous moniker "Healthy Whole Grains" is an oxymoron and national tragedy.
