Al Qaeda offers bounty for killing U.S. diplomat

CBS News

SANAA, Yemen Al Qaeda's branch in Yemen has announced that it will pay tens of thousands of dollars to anyone who kills the U.S. ambassador in Sanaa or an American soldier in the country.

An audio produced by the group's media arm, the al-Malahem Foundation, and posted on militant websites Saturday said it offered three kilograms of gold, worth $160,000, for killing the ambassador.

The group said it will pay 5 million Yemeni riyals ($23,000) to anyone who kills an American soldier inside Yemen.

It did not say how the bounty could be collected, but said the offer is valid for six months.

The bounties were set to "inspire and encourage our Muslim nation for jihad," the statement said.

Washington considers al Qaeda in Yemen to be the group's most dangerous branch.

Maybe if we set up some more "gun free" zones around the world; we'll be safe.

vissionquest replies: cptdeuce, I find it funny that you take someone to task for childish remarks, yet you suggest that Clinton received money as a result of a terrorist attack (a childish defense of your political views). It is very evident that your hatred of the majority elected administration clouds your ability to engage in rational debate.

Actually there is a huge difference, but I fully expect you to side with others that take your side of opinions. No problem. But the fact that you cannot see a difference between childish name calling and directing an opinionated jab at our failed leadership, is a telling sign.
If you wish to debate policies and cause-and-effects based upon historical relevance, then perhaps we could discuss. Perhaps we could start with what happened in Benghazi in September to where we are right now with Muslim Extremists.

domoblind - are you satisfied with how our government is operating? And your childish name calling is truly an indicator of your character. We have fiscally failed for the past 12 years and it appears nothing will change. I am glad that you are pleased.

Are you sure your name shouldn't be cptdouche?

Childish response. Of course, public dissent for failure of our government warrants remarks such as yours. Truly pathetic.

Yeah, that'll go a long way toward peace in the region. As much of Qur'an is based on biblical teaching, perhaps an eye-for-an-eye is the answer, except to be paid they must deliver the whole head to the U.S. forces. Yes, I know it sounds ridiculous, but that seems to be the mindset of Jihadists. If they know Paradise won't be fun without a head, maybe they'll cease trying to use a perverted version of the Muslim religion to rule the world.

Apparently, when an appeal based solely upon the supernatural and the afterlife fail, a hefty cash reward can be successful in inflaming the religious fervor of the armed Islamic zealot.

We do not hear the voice of "moderate Islam" condemning these terrorists, as being murderous heretics; so most non-Muslims conclude that justifying murder is an integral part of the Mohammedan's belief system....and that Islam itself is a form of terrorism....that Islam is nothing more than wickedness and mass hysteria.

Incredibly a billion and a half human beings have been enslaved by this spiritually bereft, oppressive madness. Now that these lunatics have nuclear weapons, it is simply a matter of time before they destroy Western civilization as we know it...Holy Wars Suck.

Agreed. Moderate Islamic followers would be denouncing such brutality. I know a couple of individuals that do. But where are the official voices, since we're all in the peanut gallery? The lack of their voices does raise not unfair suspicion.

I agree, but I can't help but notice that the majority of good Christians in this country do not rise up against the crazys in this country
