PARIS Groups opposing President Francois Hollande's plan to legalize gay marriage and adoption took to the streets across France on Saturday.

Hollande said he would enact his "marriage for everyone" plan within a year of coming to power in May, but vocal opposition from religious leaders, some politicians and parts of rural France has divided the country.

Saturday's protest, called the "March for Everyone," included pro-family and Catholic groups. Several thousand people marched in Paris, carrying signs with slogans such as "One child (equals) one father + one mother."

Their final destination was the Invalides monument, the final resting place of Napeolon Bonaparte, the French leader who invented the country's prized civil code, which is still in force today. It states that marriage is a union between a man and a woman, a point the gay marriage bill seeks to overturn. Another reform would be to replace the entries in a child's registry book from "father" and "mother" to "parent 1" and "parent 2."

Elsewhere, France's largest demonstrations — estimated to be several thousand people strong — took place in Toulouse and France's second city, Lyon.

The marches Saturday had a dress code of blue, white and pink — putting a spin on the French tricolore flag's traditional colors of blue, white and red.

A recent survey found that most French favor gay marriage, while support for adoption by gay couples hovers at around 50 percent.

"And Elohim created the man in His image, in the image of Elohim He created him--male and fimale He created them.
And Elohim blessed them, and Elohim said to them, "Be fruitful and increase",... Genesis 1:27-28

Elohim is the Hebrew term for God.

Elohim did not create homosexuals, nor lesbians, neither trans-sexuals. That is a result of sin.

And for those who wish to come out of that sin, there is a way----the way is Yahshuah(Jesus). He can deliver you from that demon.

The fact that God asked people to be "fruitful" does not mean that he shuns those who cannot reproduce. Anyway, the earth is more than replenished. In fact, it is overpopulated.

Actually, God did create homosexuals. Ask any psychologist or therapist on the planet. Homosexuality is not pathologized, curable, or unhealthy. If you think that it is a sin then maybe you are listening to some demons of your own. If God is anything, he is benevolent. A true benevolent God would NEVER tell homosexuals that they are sinning. Only ignorance would lead you to believe such things.

But none of that matters because marriage as a religious institution is different from marriage as a social contract. No one has ever said that your religion can't choose who it allows to marry. Civil marriage is a social contract. It is a human right for anyone who is a consenting adult.

It's crazy that even France has resistance to this. It's only a matter of time before the world accepts this as a fundamental human right, to marry.

Look at this bigoted brainless idiots making fools of themselves. They remind me of the fake Christian hypocrites here at home. Hey earth to half wits, don't try to share your phony, idiot and shallow lives on the rest of us. If you don't like gay marriage, don't have one. But just shut the hell up you are not doing anyone a favor.

Marriage is a civil institution. A priest can't even marry without the power of the State in the US. So, the entire religious dogma is out the window! This is why they're called civil rights, not religious freedom. France WILL pass gay marriage. A nation of 35 million shouldn't be overly concerned about the protest of a few thousand. The majority of the French, except the Islamic and Christian Talibans, welcome the expansion of marriage. People who quote from Levitical law shouldn't be so quite to cherry pick. Those who live by the law must die by the law for it invalidates the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. I welcome same-sex marriage and have no fear as it moves closer, not only in France, but only a few months away here in the United States! Prop 8. Nothing can stop it now.

Today's world is built on tradition and the foundation of the laws that came before us. To ignore Levitical law in our modern day is to separate the population from its core beliefs, which in our American judicial system, is Christianity. That's why our courts use a jury system of 12 people, to correspond to the 12 apostles that Jesus chose as his apostles.

You seem to be back away from your beliefs based on some anti-Christ revisionist theory that supports such a prurient nature. That's why hell is there, to punish wicked people.

From all the entertainment from the 50s to the 2000s, there have been many theories on what the future would look like. Of course that is usually space ships, new technologies, better food and medicine.

I never saw much about gay people marrying, genetic modified foods, and stem cells used for creating clones and or freezing embryos. Sure, the book "Brave new World," address the latter of these modern practices. But homosexual marriage, never.

I respect the people in france to stand for what they believe and to refer to it as discriminating is just ridiculous...

The people in france are expressing their beliefs. Would denying an alternate view be discrimination? Let it discussed, as I remember our founding history in America was born out of not being able to freely express their beliefs.

It came from a Heavy-handed government-driven society that refused to allow any other view.

The idea of blacks being denied their rights is hideous to me but i just can't make the connect to blacks and not getting hunting licences. i dont agree with the comparison. I love all people gay or straight. But i personally dont see homosexuality as a race , It is their free choice. but i hold the view of traditional marriage between a man and woman . i need to get to work THANKS for the discussion

SLOWNEWS: Even thought I support marriage equality, I actually think your analogy is pretty bad; whether or not two people of the same gender should be able to marry is dependent on one's views on the central nature of marriage, and whether it's tied to the gender of the participants. If a certain race was denied a hunting license, it wouldn't be because it violated the "nature" of hunting, it would be to discriminate against a certain group, which is a different matter.
