WASHINGTON Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton paid tribute Thursday to slain U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens, calling him a "fallen hero" who understood that diplomacy requires taking risks.

About two months after Stevens and three other Americans were killed in an attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi on Sept. 11, Clinton said the State Department and Pentagon are reviewing security at high-threat diplomatic posts to determine what improvements should be made.

But Clinton also stressed that diplomacy in unstable areas is inherently dangerous and praised Stevens for volunteering for difficult jobs to serve his country.

"Our country mourns a fallen hero," she said of Stevens at a speech honoring him and others receiving the Common Ground award for conflict resolution, negotiation and peace building. The award was presented by the group Search for Common Ground, which is focused on ways of resolving conflicts.

Stevens "understood that there is no substitute for going beyond the embassy walls, building relationships, and finding common ground," she said. "We will never prevent every act of terrorism or achieve perfect security. And our diplomats cannot work in bunkers and do their jobs. We must accept a level of risk to protect this country we love and to advance our interests and values around the world."

Clinton's comments came as lawmakers step up demands for information about the Benghazi attack. Several congressional committees will hold classified hearings on the matter next week amid Republican charges that the Obama administration ignored increased threats to the mission. The State Department and FBI are also investigating.

This sure was nice of you, (Mrs) Clinton. Even though a tad late. Of course you are free from involvement, you said the magic phrase, 'I accept responsibility'. Even though you didn't, you blamed your security people. Anyway how could you be held responsible being you have spent almost all of your time as Secretary of State gleefully traveling around the world visiting this country and that country. (Accomplishing zilch, of course.)

This is the least Hideous Hilary can do since her department gave the green to the terrorists to murder four Americans. Obama loves to say he got Bin Laden. Truth be told, he did nothing more than take a political risk and watch the event on TV from the safety of the White House basement, surrounded by guards. The Seals took the non-fictional risk and they, and they alone are responsible for Bin Laden being fish food. The Ambassador and his staff are dead because Hideous Hilary and the O'Blunder Administration are weak in mind, soul and commitment.

Clinton would have really honored this diplomat if she had made sure that he was safe. I should add that this was no ordinary citizen. This was an ambassador. He represented our country. Where is the outrage? All that I see is CYA.

Crystal trophies, do not make up for, sacrificing people's lives.

The investigation shows, without any doubt, that the administration lied to the people for 2 full weeks, about the Benghazi affair, blaming it on a movie, that simply had NOTHING to do with it.

All of the evidence in the investigation so far, says the administration denied beefing up the security there, after 2 previous incidents, leaving those people as sitting ducks.

They knew.......and they did nothing. I call that creating sacrificial lambs.

I am thoroughly disappointed and disgusted with CBS News, 60 Minutes, and other news organizations for their failure to TIMELY report news events. Your organizations continue the path of dumbing America for the sake of ratings and a buck. Apparently now we may need to turn to foreign news sources (such as Reuters (http://www.reuters.com/news), and al jazeera (http://www.aljazeera.com/) to get some semblance of accurate, timely, and unbiased reporting. Unbelievable.

Outrageous... Hillary continues to show she has not conscience or shame or guilt. How can she look so smug when she was an accomplice in Steven's death? Look at the expression on Steven's wife- like someone stuck in a fish market with the old fish.

Hillary deserves to be taken to task for the Benghazi failure.. she accepted responsibility, she takes the lumps as the dirty details continue to unfold.
