So Obama was notified at 3:40 pm of the attack in Benghazi after the alert was sounded and Hicks had spoken to Amb. Steven, who informed him he was under an attack.

Where was Obama during 3:40 and 5:00 pm? Wherever he was, I hope it was important to him because U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and Foreign Service Officer Sean Smith paid for that time with their lives.

Not bad, but missing a lot of important events in the timeline.

I'd ad the following events:

7/12/12, Sam Bacile releases a 13 minute trailer for a movie entitled "The Real Life of Muhammad"

10:25pm EST, 9/11/12, Mitt Romney releases a statement slamming the Obama Administration:

"I'm outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi. It's disgraceful that the Obama Administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks." The U.S. Embassy statement from Cairo was issued before the attack in Libya.

12:01am EST, 9/12/12 One minute after midnight, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus tweets:

"Obama sympathizes with attackers in Egypt. Sad and pathetic."

10:16am EST, 9/12/12. Mitt Romney doubles down on his attack of the Obama administration:

The Obama Administration "sent mixed messages to the world." "I think it's a terrible course for America to stand in apology for our values,"

2007 to 2012, Congress consistently reduces the State Dept. budget, including security. From 2010 to 2012 Congress cuts 296 million from the State Dept's budget for security and construction, along with additional cuts in other State Dept. security accounts.

Outstanding article. Clearly articulates the need for a deeper investigation. It's easy to arm chair QB the situation 8 months later. Clearly there is a problem.
Why didn't the State Department withdraw the consulate in June when the UK government did? What intel reports drove this decision?
Why wasn't their more security...if the consulate was getting probed just as much as a forward operating base in Afghanistan....Do our embassies have adequate security and if tensions increase do we preposition DoD assets to meet the intel threats?
Clearly it was a terrorist attack.... did the Obama administration politically down play the incident for the November election, did state department cover up the additional security requests, or why did it take so long to send a quick reaction force to support the consulate...is their command and control issue between the DoD, CIA, and the state department.
Mistakes happen and our president cannot prevent evil from occurring everywhere...whether your Obama, Bush, Clinton, or Reagan. The crime is what do we do now and what did we do immediately after the Ambassador Stevens and his employees where murdered.
If it was a cover up...for political reasons I will be embarrassed as an American. Very disappointed in a man who potentially would do anything to be elected. I don't think or believe any president would do this.
If State down played the security requests Hillary needs to step down. She might not have known about the about the threat but the buck stops at her desk and she needs to own it. As leader you must take responsibility for your subordinates. She accepted the job for good and bad. I hope State learns from this mistake.
If it is a command and control issue AFRICOM, CIA, and state need to get a process in place to prevent a security lapse like this from ever happening again.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is told of the incident "shortly after it began at 4 p.m.," CBS News' Margaret Brennan reported Sept. 14. Clinton spoke to the Libyan President Mohammed Magariaf to "enlist his full support."
Hillary called the President of Libya.

10:25 p.m. (4:25 p.m. ET): A six-member CIA team arrives from the annex with 40 to 60 members of 17th of February Brigade. The team removes Smith's body.
Smith and the Ambassador died from smoke.
The CIA goes in with 40 to 60 men.

Around 10:30 p.m. (4:30 p.m. ET): Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and his top military adviser learn of the incident.

10:54 p.m. (4:54 p.m. ET): An alert from the State Dept. Operations Center: "the firing... in Benghazi has stopped. A response team is on site attempting to locate COM personnel."
Says plain and clear -"A response team is on site".

First, much of the time line has been constructed by testimony that has been refuted.

12:07 a.m. (6:07 p.m. ET): An alert from the State Dept. Operations Center states that the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli reports the Islamic military group "Ansar al-Sharia Claims Responsibilty for Benghazi Attack"... "on Facebook and Twitter and has called for an attack on Embassy Tripoli."

Around 12:30 a.m. (6:30 p.m. ET): A six-man security team, including two Defense Dept. personnel, leave Embassy Tripoli for Benghazi.

1:30 a.m. (7:30 p.m. ET): The U.S. security team from Embassy Tripoli lands in Benghazi and learn that the ambassador is missing. They try to arrange for transportation into town, with the goal of locating Stevens.

5:15 a.m. (11:15 p.m. ET): .....
At around the same time, the additional security team finds transportation from the airport under the escort of the Libyan Shield, another local militia, but decides to head to the annex after learning that Stevens was almost certainly dead. Just after their arrival, the annex takes mortar fire, sustaining three direct hits. The precision of the attacks indicates a level of sophistication and coordination.

Former U.S. Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty are killed in the mortar assault, which lasts just 11 minutes before dissipating; a DS agent and annex security member are severely wounded.

After the mortar attack, about 30 Americans evacuate the annex and head to the airport, with the assistance of the Libyan security convoy.

Ambassador Stevens is confirmed dead later that morning, as Americans see his body at the airport

NOTE, that security team defied orders, they were previously ordered to "Stand Down" and arrived in less than 2 hours.

Weeks after, the "Official Press Release" was edited numerous times to prevent the American People from knowing the truth.

The US Seal members killed happened more than 8 hours AFTER the earliest reporting of gunfire from assailants on the compound.

They were also able to get 2 "Unarmed" drones there during the course of activity.

Also of note, Obama WAS informed of what was going on, YET.. looking at the videos playbacks from the 2 weeks after, seems he is either playing dumb or purposely withholding facts.

andthetruthis.. it matters just as much WHAT happened, how they covered it up and how they knew it was going to happen.

It really has to suck to have that karma come back on you? After all, that is the exact same treatment Bush got.

I also find it interesting how liberals forget that four Americans died, but that is not all that died that night...

many Libyan men also gave their lives, to protect that compound, and personnel that were not even suppose to be there.

Check the timeline BEFORE the attacks... Obama knew of the situation, and this was the anniversary of a now important Muslim date. It's nearly a religious holiday to them now.

not everyone else drinks the kool-aid or buys the brainwashed narrative.

Some of us really see the facts, not just pick out one or two that support our position and call it the whole truth.

Why did they stay with the it was due to the movie narrative? because it was election time and it wouldn't look good for Obama. Obama led us to believe it was due to the movie even though he knew it was due to more than that. He lied to us all and we all that paid attention heard it.

Why did they edit the "talking points" to remove the fact it was a Terrorist group and a direct attack on a US Ambassador?

Why is it, the day after, the President's own words were vague and limited?

Oh wait, thanks to Obama Al-Quada and terrorist groups associated are on the run.... man, it's got to suck for any Obama backer to have bought into that lie.

Actually I feel sorry for anyone that voted for Obama, because Joe Biden is looking more and more like a reflection of Gerald Ford each day.

And by the official facts, Obama has committed or allowed to be committed more acts of Impeachment than Nixon ever could.

But Nixon had the nads to resign, to save his party further embarrassment.

keokiboy says:
One might probe the efforts John McCain made during this time as a powerful member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. There is little above showing any understanding of the State Department's ability to get military support. They just don't ask for it and get it. The Marines have to agree and the country in which our embassies are located are in on the act. The Armed Services committee members seem to have more influence on this than does the State Department. Perhaps Mr. McCain should tell us all of the appeals he made for more embassy security during the time of this probe. The guy is a major disappointment and generally a duplicitous political hack.

And what country do you live in?

The President of the US is the Commander in Chief. If he tells the Marines "Do it", they will, without regard.

Maybe you should actually spend some time looking up the purpose of the Armed Services Committee and it's relationship to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
