Israeli military downs drone entering airspace

JERUSALEM The Israeli military said troops shot down a drone that penetrated the country's airspace in the south.

A military spokesman said the drone was shot down Saturday morning. He would not say where it originated.

Israel borders Egypt in the south and Jordan in the east. The spokesman was speaking on condition of anonymity in accordance with military protocol.

Israel radio reported that it appeared to be an intelligence-gathering drone.

An Israeli defense spokesperson told The Times of Israel that the Air Force identified the unmanned aerial vehicle as it flew over the Mediterranean, and that the IAF tracked its flight over Israel before shooting it down in the northern Negev desert.

The Times said military officials do not believe the drone came from the Gaza Strip. They are considering the possibility that it originated in Lebanon.

In 2006 the IDF shot down a drone belonging to Lebanon-based Hezbollah.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak has congratulated the military in a statement, adding, "We view this incident of attempting to enter Israeli airspace very severely and we will consider our response later."

They better have got a previous ok on this from (Mrs) Clinton and her Nobel Peace Prize winning superior. We will not have Israel doing anything without U.S. approval.

Probably an Iranian hack of our captured RQ-170 "Stealth Drone" they claim to have brought down then copied and threatened to use worldwide. It would be interesting to find out, when the Israelis begin to study the remains.

This was insteresting. First of the fact that they could TRACK a drone, secondly they could SHOOT it down. That means a highly safisticated RADAR sysem existed OR a SATALITE system existed we do not know about which has the capacity to track a target that is stealt. Israel has ALWAYS improved any item we have furnished. Examples: The 155 half track system that can fire a round every 11 seconds running at 50 miles per hour which will hit with in 5 feet of where it is aimed or the RADAR paralizing system used against Syria during their conflict which allow destruction of the Air Force of Syria and all it defensive system. That is just two examples

Who ever sent it by now has learned to keep it below the radar...What will the major exporter of drones do when the chickens come home to rost? And they find themselves under attack by drones that target the not the people but the warplanes or even the passenger planes?
Unless of course this just was a selftest as ordered by the shinbeth?
