Netanyahu: Containment policy for Iran won't work

(AP) JERUSALEM - Israel's prime minister says a policy of containment for Iran will not work because Tehran is guided by a "leadership of fanaticism."

In an interview on NBC News' "Meet the Press" to be aired Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also says he disagrees with those who argue that going to war with Iran would be worse than a nuclear Iran.

"Iran is guided by a leadership with an unbelievable fanaticism," he said. "You want these fanatics to have nuclear weapons?"

Washington wants to give diplomacy and sanctions more time to pressure Tehran to abandon its suspect nuclear work.

But Netanyahu has warned repeatedly that Iran is perilously close to acquiring a nuclear bomb. Earlier this week, he criticized the U.S. specifically over its containment policy, saying peaceful methods are not working.

Not containment but stages. Europe had their talks, now we have the sanctions then will come the real showdown. We give them a chance to change and then drop the hammer. It is the right way to go and the threat will be stopped.

Anybody with half the brain can understand that Iran will never use the Nuclear bomb on Israel because the neighbor countries ,including Palestine, will be destroyed also.Israel wants this propaganda to kill thousands of children in Iran by sanctions,exactly they way these sanction kill thousands of children in Iraq.Israel want to keep on steeling Palestinian land and burn their children with phosphorus bomb while keeping the world busy by their propaganda against Iran. Its a very well played game. Obama's handlers and Obama himself is working very closely with Netanyahoo and his handlers top play out this charade, this supposed disagreement between Netanyahoo and Obama is a distraction both leaders need to quell serious economic and domestic i.e the US debt and the Palestinian issue. Some at the time thought the target of the whole Iraq invasion was really Iran. This whole drumbeat is an attempt to continue that failed policy. It was Iran all along. Iraq was just necessary to give a clear path. Now that that clear path has not materialized, they are willing to send us down this much more murky and hazardous path. If Iran nuked us or Israel, we could turn them into an ashtray. The counter to that argument is that there are "madmen" in Iran and deterrence won't work. That is BS. They are paranoid, but going after them would likely make them more likely to use something if they had it. And if they are paranoid, what is Netanyahu? As someone who spent more time than I care to recall in Iraq/Saudi Arabia, I am glad our President is not taking this bait. I worry they will do something to force his hand.

There's an old saying...."history repeats itself"....and we're seeing it played out before our eyes. Go back to pre-World War Two England and you have Neville Chamberlain (probably butchered the spelling of his name just now)returning to England after a trip to Germany where he and a Mr. Adolf Hitler signed a peace agreement assuring everyone that Adolf had no ill will towards anyone and all was cool. Yes pinetreewest, I'll agree that Netanyahu is brash....he does tend to tell the world how to act and expects the world to march in step to his tune, BUT....fundamentally he is correct. Iran IS a world threat, and seeing as how he, Netanyahu, and his country are living right next door to this world threat, I can understand his being a bit on the intense "listen to what I am telling you" band wagon. Disrespectful? Yep, I'll give ya that. Insulting? Yep, I'll give ya that too. Diplomacy is not this guys (Netanyahu's) strong suit to be sure. But a fool? No way.....like I said, fundamentally he has it right.

Watching the comments for the most part is beyond depressing and embarrassing. When Iran and the other "peace loving" Muslim terrorists get nuclear weapons with the help of Russia, N. Korea, and China, plus their infestation into Europe, you will witness the collapse of the west and it's forms of democracy. Israel is part of the west. If not Armageddon.
