(CBS/AP) LONDON - One of Britain's richest women, American-born Eva Rausing, was found dead in her west London home and a man was arrested in connection with the case, British police said Tuesday, adding that an autopsy had failed to uncover a formal cause of death.

Rausing, 48, was the wife of Hans Kristian Rausing, heir to the TetraPak fortune his father built by creating a successful manufacturer of laminated cardboard drink containers.

Both Rausing and her husband have had long-running and often public battles against addiction.

British police said they had arrested a 49-year-old man Monday on suspicion of drug possession and a subsequent search of an address in London's tony Belgravia neighborhood related to that arrest turned up Rausing's body later that day. TPolice did not release the man's name but offered details of the arrest in response to a question about Hans Kristian Rausing.

Scotland Yard said in a statement Tuesday that further tests were being carried out on Rausing's body after an autopsy was inconclusive. It said officers from the Homicide and Serious Crime division were investigating the case "and the death continues to be treated at this time as unexplained."

The man arrested in connection with Rausing's death remained under arrest but was receiving medical attention at a location away from the police station, police said. They would not say if the man was under guard.

After the news broke, her parents, Tom and Nancy Kemeny, and the rest of her family paid tribute Tuesday to a "devoted wife" and mother of four "much loved and wonderful children," saying they were devastated over her death. Their statement also alluded to her struggles.

"During her short lifetime she made a huge philanthropic impact, supporting a large number of charitable causes, not only financially, but using her own personal experiences," the family said in a statement. "She bravely fought her health issues for many years."

A statement from her in-laws, Hans and Marit Rausing, said they were "deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death."

Eva Rausing supported a number of charities that helped to fight addictions. One of them - Action on Addiction - was among the first to express sadness over her death and praise her "wonderfully generous" support over the years.

She also was listed as a long-term supporter of The Prince's Foundation, part of a group of nonprofit charities that have Prince Charles as their patron. His office said the prince was told of Rausing's death but did not offer further comment.

In a diplomatic scandal in 2008, Eva Rausing was arrested outside the U.S. Embassy in London for reportedly trying to bring crack cocaine and heroin into building in her handbag. Police later found small amounts of cocaine, crack and heroin in a search of couple's then $10 million London town house. The couple was charged with drug possession but prosecutors later agreed to drop the charges in exchange for formal police warnings.

At the time, the Rausing family issued a statement saying relatives were "deeply saddened" by the couple's drug problems and hoped they could overcome their addictions.

Hans Rausing's Swedish father helped transform TetraPak into a hugely successful manufacturer. The fortune of the senior Rausing and his family is estimated at $6.7 billion by the Sunday Times Rich List.

It is a very sad story for her children and family. Some people just can't kick their addictions. God Bless her. Hope she has some peace now and maybe it will give her husband the incentive to fight his addictions, if not for himself but for the sake of the children.

don't get it. what makes anyone do illegal drugs? people make the choice to do drugs be they among the wealthy, the poor, the beaufiful, the ugly, people of any color, religious or not, etc. wonder what is wrong with their brain that they make such bad choices. life is about choices so why do so many make so many bad choices in what is really a short life span for anyone? if you do drugs, even at the so called recreational level, ever wonder why you do or what is wrong with your life, your brain?

Go visit a doctor, get all the drugs you want.....legally. Your life will be a mess just as much so as if you were on illegal drugs. Make the choice to live life free of any drugs!

Not everyone is born the same. Some people are born strong and some are weak. Some have common sense......and LOTS don't. There are many people that have absolutely no self-discipline. Then there are the people that have addictive personalities.

Some people just can't deal with reality and need something to help them get through life. If you should be an "addictive" person, then once you start, the chances are you ain't going to stop.

I could have done a lot more good things with that kind of wealth than throw it away on drugs. The town house alone would have kept me busy for years. What a sad ending, and only 48. I've never seen the allure of drugs and always thought them for filthy people who don't care about themselves or the bigger picture. Plenty of rich people don't act like that.

FormerUSMCSergeant: Well, I can see you're one of those non-believers, so I won't waste my time trying to convince you of the salvation you could have through accepting Christ as your personal Savior. I will tell you this though, I was also a U.S.Marine in the 1st Marine Division serving in Vietnam during the Tet offensive in 1968, and the power of prayer brought me home in one piece, and I thank my Lord Jesus everyday for all of the blessings he has bestowed upon me through my life. How's your life going?

Hi, jackpenn. Are you saying that all the military personnel of the wars in Vietnam that were killed or injured deserved what they got for not praying, or maybe not praying hard enough? Does that include all those who suffered the same fate in Iraq and Afghanistan? Or are you saying it is just marines who don't pray? That's a lot of people who didn't pray. That's 58,000 dead and over 200,000 injured in Vietnam. So you are saying they got what they deserved? What's your story? I don't get it.

This just goes to show you having all of the money in the world can not buy anyone true happiness, if you need drugs to escape reality having lots of money is useless. However, anyone can recieve the Lord Jesus Christ into their life and have total happiness, and contentment regardless of how much money they have, but there are people who will continue to ignore or not believe this truth. People must begin to realize if you are of the world and believe what the world has to offer you will bring you complete happiness you are sadly mistaken. Believing in the world to bring you happiness is a big mistake, and you will end your life in this world as a deceived person of discontentment.

"...if you need drugs to escape reality having lots of money is useless..."

How do you figure?

Unlike most junkies, she can afford her habit, and even gets away with it when caught.

Obviously having lots of money is quite useful if you have expensive habits.

If doing drugs makes you happy, and you can afford it, then you have found "true happiness", there is no such thing as "false" happiness.

As for "escaping reality, there is no drug that does such a thing, they all simply alter the users' reaction to reality.

Besides, brainwashing yourself that 2,000-year-old myths can supplant reality is no different than eating, drinking, or smoking substances for the same purpose. It's all in the mind.

Time for a new line, preacher, that "escape reality" song is old, tired, and indeed also disconnected from reality.

Useless people often turn to hard drugs to deal with their miserable existence. Though most prefer the powerful legal variants IE Prozac, Zoloft, Soma, percocet, etc
