Yoko Ono tweeted a picture of John Lennon's bloody glasses Thursday in an effort to bring attention to the issue of gun violence.

The Beatles legend's wife paired the picture of the blood-spattered spectacles with the following statement:

Lennon, also known for his political activism and pacifism, was killed after being shot four times by Mark David Chapman outside his and Ono's New York residence in 1980.

Ono tweeted the picture several times, each with different statements speaking out against gun violence and "turning this beautiful country into a war zone."

"Over 1,057,000 people have been killed by guns in the U.S.A. since John Lennon was shot and killed on December 8, 1980," she wrote.

The statistics were retweeted by President Barack Obama.

Ono has actively spoken out about political issues before. She and Sean appeared on "CBS This Morning" last August to combat fracking.

The glasses have also graced the cover of her 1981 album, "Season of Glass."

Yes, it would be nice if we lived in a world where there was no hate, no violence, no bigotry, etc . . . but, the fact still remains that guns do not kill people. People kill people. They may use a gun, or a knife, or any one of a multitude of weapons. They may use a car. They may use any one of a host of poisons. They may use anything at hand. They may kill someone in the library with a candlestick. But, it is still people that kill, not the object that perpetrates the crime.

You can rob a bank with a gun or a toothpick too. Guns make the ease of crime easier...don't you get it???

And in that same time more than 1.4 million humans died in car accidents!
Do we start banning cars? Guns or cars never killed a person. The operator behind them did. I have never come home to see my guns shooting at each other or even messing around. Likewise, I have never seen my vehicles in the garage killing each other.

One of the most idiotic arguments ever. Cars are not built specifically kill people. Guns are. Period. You don't hear of too many drive by hammerings do you?

No one is coming for your beautiful guns. No one. Not a single person. Buy them until you can't afford food. I don't care. Use it in a crime and the cops should just shoot you in the head. Let it be stolen, and you're on the hook for any crime committed with it. Let your child get hold of it and kill his/her self or another child and you go to prison.

But again, no one is coming for your stupid guns.

Again a case of a failed Mental Health System. Again blame the Object not the Operator. Again exploit a tragedy to try and pass a law labeled "Pointless" By Mr.Obama's own Department of Justice.
Again we so how low Mr. Obama will sink.. What's next,, perhaps JFK's Convertible... Maybe Abe's Theater Chair?

We need to be reminded how John was murdered- by an unstable coward with a cheap pistol for his companion. By an unstable coward who had no business with his mental history to be able to legally obtain a firearm. By an unstable coward who repaid John's kindness (he autographed the bastard's album) by shooting him in the back.

Why, yes! The sensible thing to do would have been to wash the blood from his glasses because afterall it would be in poor taste to remind the rest of the world of how out-of-control gun violence in this country took her husband from her.

Did we consider gun violence "out of control" before Aurora, CO and Newtown CT? Seems to me that gun violence has been fairly consistent for years in inner cities. But when white people get killed, THEN it becomes a problem.

The questions that should be asked are WHY somebody kills, not HOW they do it.

Guns are just an easy target. About 20,000,000 people over that same time span died of cancer. 24,000,000 people died of Heart disease. Almost 5,000,000 people died from flu and pneumonia, 1,900,000 people died from drug overdoses (and drugs are already illegal). Lets focus some more resources on fighting cancer, heart disease, drugs and provide vaccines instead of starting a new battle with guns.
