Ex-LAPD officer: Killings "a necessary evil"

LOS ANGELES In a long, rambling manifesto addressed to "The Nation," with the subject line "Last Resort," former LAPD officer Christopher Dorner -- the suspect in a weekend double homicide, and in the overnight shootings of three police officers in the Los Angeles area Thursday -- said the killing spree was a "necessary evil."

CBS Los Angeles reports the 20-page document lays out a long list of concerns, slights, charges and threats against fellow LAPD officers, whom he blames for his termination from the force.

Once a decorated officer and former Navy reservist, Dorner was fired from the department in 2009, allegedly for making false statements against another officer he accused of police brutality.

He is currently the target of a manhunt, suspected of killing an assistant women's basketball coach and her fiance Sunday and fatally shooting a police officer in the suburb of Riverside and wounding two others early Thursday morning.

Dorner, 33, implicated himself in the weekend killings with the manifesto, originally posted on his Facebook page, in which he says "goodbye" to friends.

He also mentions various people in the news media he admires (among them Anderson Cooper), entertainers he liked (including Charlie Sheen), and discusses presidents he liked (Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush) and even suggests who former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton should pick for her running mate in 2016.

He also apologizes to one for not being able to make it to the wedding "to be your best man." But mostly the document was filled with bitter accusations against other officers he accused of racial discrimination, hostility and retaliation.

Among the excerpts:

"I know most of you who personally know me are in disbelief to hear from media reports that I am suspected of committing such horrendous murders. I know I will be vilified by the LAPD and the media. Unfortunately, this is a necessary evil that I do not enjoy, but must partake and complete for substantial change to occur within the LAPD and reclaim my name. . . .

"You're going to see what a whistle blower can do when you take everything from him -- especially his name. . . .

"When the truth comes out, the killing stops. The attacks will stop when the department states the truth about my innocence publicly."

In the manifesto, he accused the LAPD of having "suppressed the truth," and that this "has led to deadly consequences."

"In essence I've lost everything ... because the LAPD took my name and new (sic) I was innocent. Randy Quan new (sic) I was innocent but decided to terminate me."

Retired LAPD Captain Randy Quan was Dorner's lawyer at his LAPD hearing; he is also father of Monica Quan, who was murdered -- along with her fiance -- on Sunday evening in Irvine.

Our gun laws don't need reforming, however our Police do.

I hope he gets enough for a further investigation to be launched.

I'm guessing this guy was trained to follow ONLY Lawful Orders. Too bad the Police don't follow the law, they only pretend to enforce it.

Probably if you're a black officer on the LAPD and hear white officers use the N word without any fear from supervision on a regular basis, what else can you ascribe it to other than racism. If LAPD encourage their Officers to come forward and report incidents of misconduct by fellow officers, then why was this guy made into a villian for doing just that. According to a claim on his manifesto, a female officer kicked a mentally challenged handcuffed suspect three times. If this incident actually occurred, this was definitely a case of misconduct. His committing murder can't justify this fired cop's actions but there should definitely be a thorough investigation by an outside source to determine what's going on in this Department just to prevent activity of this nature from occurring in the future.

US gov't kills other peoples' relatives, children, and animals in foreign countries. Might do it in the US without much protest now that drone warfare killing of Americans is the new norm.

If the police killed people like Obama, we wouldn't worry about a few innocent civilians getting killed along the way.

@ Donnie_G, Listen, I am one of the "anti-gun' crowd. Am I against ALL guns, of course not. I am against putting Eugene Stoner's Black Rifles, aka (AR .223s) in the hands of the citizenry, many of whom are obviously not firing on all 8 cylinders. Oh, BTW, I have a CCW and carry a .45 acp semi. LEGALLY. If there were a FEDERALLY MANDATE psychological exam required every 2 years for ALL US gun owners, many deranged individuals like this former LEO would NOT pose a serious threat to Law Enforcement as their weapons permits would be automatically denied and existing household inventory confiscated. Look at all the shooters out there. 100% are all suffereing from some sort of mental impairment. If wanting a higher standard makes me quote "anti-gun", if not wanting nutjobs carrying makes me "anti-gun', if not wanting to see cops killed daily by nuts makes me "anti-gun" then... I guess I am. fact is, you are not giving responsible gun owners like myself any reason to give radical NRA people like you any credibility any more. Oh, BTW... I have had friends killed in close quarter combat. I know what guns REALLY do when placed in the wrong hands.

I respect your opinion, but strongly disagree. Do you actually think a permit (or lack thereof) is going to stop a criminal or mentally ill person from getting a gun and killing whoever he wants to ? I think not.
Also, I do not think that just because you think I should not have an AR .223 that I should not have one. None of the guns that I have owned for the last 35 years have ever killed anyone.
I too am a law abiding responsible with a CCW. I do not support anything that would take away my right to own any type of rifle that I choose.
Mathion replies:

Gosh, Rick, here's a news flash for you: "Arms" as used in the second amendment is UNDEFINED. "Take away your right to own any type of rifle I wanted"? REALLY? You can't own a milspec 20 mm sniper rifle. In fact, there are a tone of things you CAN'T OWN by law that are also "arms", up to and including your own nukes.

"Now you're talking crazy", you say.

Nope, the fact is, way back in 1776, the "arms" used by the military and the general population were basically the same ones. That was why we have the BYOG part of the second amendment. It was supposed to be a fast, and cheap, way of raising a defensive force instead of trying to equip and train a regular standing army. Yes, the founding fathers gave lip service to the notion that a government should fear an armed citizenry, but let's face it, there hasn't been a successful insurrection against a standing government without outside military aid from another government pretty much in the history of the modern world. We needed France's help in 1776. The South couldn't get England's help through the Northern blockades in 1864. Those who got the help WON. And each time, the arms available to the average citizen didn't differ that much from the arms used by the military.

The fiction that our government fears an armed citizenry TODAY - even with your little AR - is delusional. The only thing an AR is really useful against these days is other civilians. Which puts those who own assault weapons, assault rifles and automatic weapons firmly in the category of "terrorist" in my book. Not only will they not help in hunting, sport-shooting or personal defense (they're too overpowered and non-selective for personal protection, and you can't hunt with one and sport shooting isn't a compelling enough "use" to justify their private ownership.), they're pretty useless against a military with massive stand-off attack capabilities.

So we CAN legally tell you what arms you can and can't own and have been doing that for more than a hundred years. If we decide as a majority that you can't have one without becoming a criminal, then you give it up or become a criminal. If you do the latter, people with much bigger, better guns will then come for you to make you give it up.

And, personally, I'm FINE if they have to pry it from your cold, dead hands. One less terrorist living among us.

The latest message from the warning second coming:

"My dearly beloved daughter, the destruction of human life, by the hands of those who do not honour the importance of this Gift from God, is escalating. My Father's rage, because of this abominable sin, has reached such a pitch, that His roars can be heard throughout the Heavens.

The Hand of His Anger will cast out this evil, as He will pluck out those wicked men and destroy them. For every man slaughtered like an animal, My Father will throw the perpetrator into the fires of Hell.

Please know that, as wars escalate, the wicked amongst those dictators will be challenged. They will be weeded out and they will be dealt the Justice which they will bring down upon themselves.

Man cannot see what I see. They do not know the extent of evil, which results in the destruction of life, the destruction of the earth and the persecution of men, by their fellow brothers and sisters.

My Father's intervention has already commenced and His wrath will shake the earth. Enough. The failure of man to accept the Truth of God's Existence is at the root of this evil. Man plays with life, as if he controls all that is on earth, over which he has no authority. This evil cannot be allowed to continue. It will be dealt with and the fear of God will be felt by those who do not accept His Laws.

Your Jesus"
