67 dead cats taken from N.Y. home

WRIGHT, N.Y. Authorities say 67 dead cats and 99 living cats had to be removed from a filthy home in upstate New York.

Officials removed the cats from a home in Wright, near Albany, on Wednesday night.

The Times Union of Albany reports the dead cats were packed in plastic bags in the freezer and the live cats were in crates stacked floor to ceiling.

Sheriff's deputies went to the home after a neighbor called to complain about the overpowering odor of cat urine and feces.

Charges are being weighed against the cats' owner.

The manager of the animal shelter that took in the cats said she previously tried to try to help the woman. But she said the woman had "a hoarder mentality."

Cats and dogs are a dime a dozen. Anyone that wants a child just has to procreate. To be a parent or pet owner takes a sense of ethics, shame there is no test for that.

I hope this lady is never allowed to have animals ever again EVER. What a house of horror for those poor cats.

We live in an apt..We have a small dog..Seattle has a limit on the number of animals in the city. Tia was fixed before we got her. She is bathed and kept clean. She is walked 4 times aday. She is fed 2 times a day. She sleeps in my room at night. There is clean water in her water dishes 24/7.
I love dogs and one is all we can aford to care for..

Come on now! Who in their right mind puts dead cats in bags and then in the freezer. Why God WHY? She could have at least tried to bury them in the back yard. This is just the sign of a very sick and twisted individual. Serial killers put body parts in the freezer. Crank up the insane asylum, because we have crazy people running loose among us.

Wow, you have got to be kidding me. I had my cat for 22 years before she passed away last month. I loved her to death, she was everything to me and I took care of her like she was my own child. She was my baby. I want to eventually get another one, so at least I can save another innocent cat from crazy people like this. The way some people treat animals sickens me.

Maybe that lady had the same mentality. Maybe she wanted to save all the cats. Maybe we're all not understanding or seeing the bigger picture. Nah just kidding she's nuts.

This person should be locked up. I am sorry but the law doesn't protect animals nearly enough. This should not have happened :(

So she knew about this woman having all those cats and did nothing??

She should be held responsible for allowing this woman to get away with it. Maybe there wouldn't be 67 dead cats if she had have spoken up. Or maybe there wouldn't be that many cats, PERIOD.

What I would like to know is what took so long for someone to complain? Were there no cats in the windows? The windows were boarded up? And the smell wouldn't have just happened over night. They would have been smelling it for awhile.

I agree with you.How bad does it have to get before animals in that situation can legally be removed? Also if my neighbor was hoarding animals I would be on it in a flash.
