Man sues after Ga. rejects GAYGUY license plate

ATLANTA An Atlanta man is suing the Georgia Department of Driver Services, contending that his rights were violated when the state rejected his application for vanity plates making reference to his sexual orientation.

James Cyrus Gilbert maintains in the lawsuit that state officials rejected his application for the tags 4GAYLIB, GAYPWR and GAYGUY.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that all three vanity plates are on the list of vanity plates banned by the state, although the state has approved plates expressing some political or religious expressions.

Gilbert said he wasn't asking for a plate that was vulgar or "over the top."

Representatives of the state Attorney General's office, Georgia Department of Driver Services and the Department of Revenue, the agency that administers vanity plates, declined to comment on the lawsuit.

How is that any different then the riduclous plates we already see like SXYGRL21 or HOTTEST1. If straight people can put idiotic plates on their car than so should gay people.

He probably knew the plate wouldn't be accepted. Nice set up for a lawsuit. Gays go too far wanting everyone to know they are gay. Live and let live, but why advertise it. I've never heard of a hetrosexual advertising they are heterosexual. I don't think there is a symbol for that in the first place.

I've never seen a license plate with 4hetrolib, hetropwr, or hetroguy, but then again, I've never looked to see who sleeps with whom. Doesn't matter to me, but apparently does to the government.

Maybe he didn't really want a plate at all, he knew that the state would rejected his application. Only in the US can a person sue someone for anything.He want the state of Georgia to pay him for being gay.

I am a hater. These so called gay men are insulting the women of our Country by proclaiming they are gay. What red blooded man would ever "choose" another man over a woman? Being gay is a mental state of the mind and the more we accept it the more there will be. It is a choice and not a way of life!

Wow, is that breathtakingly stupid. Gay men are attracted to men. They have no choice in the matter. Bisexual people have a choice, but not gay people. They can't choose to be straight any more than you can choose to be gay.
