5 hurt in shootings at gun shows in Ohio, Ind., NC

MEDINA, Ohio Accidental shootings at gun shows in North Carolina, Indiana and Ohio left five people injured Saturday.

At the Dixie Gun and Knife Show in Raleigh, a 12-gauge shotgun discharged as its owner unzipped its case for a law enforcement officer to check at a security entrance, injuring three people, state Agriculture Department spokesman Brian Long said.

Two bystanders were hit by shotgun pellets and taken to a hospital. A retired deputy sheriff suffered a slight hand injury.

The shotgun's owner, 36-year-old Gary Lynn Wilson, brought the weapon to the show to find a private buyer, Long said. Sheriff Donnie Harrison said that it was too early to know whether Wilson might be charged but that it appeared to be an accident.

The North Carolina show, which is held at the state fairgrounds, is a quarterly event that usually draws thousands of people. The two-day show shut down early Saturday but will reopen Sunday.

In Indianapolis, police said a 54-year-old man was injured when he accidentally shot himself while leaving a gun show.

Emory L. Cozee was loading his .45 caliber semi-automatic when he shot himself in the hand as he was leaving the Indy 1500 Gun and Knife show at the state fairgrounds, state police said. Loaded personal weapons aren't allowed inside the show.

Cozee, of Indianapolis, was hospitalized for treatment. Police say the shooting was accidental and no charges will be filed.

And in Ohio, a gun dealer in Medina was checking out a semi-automatic handgun he had bought Saturday when he accidentally pulled the trigger, injuring his friend, police said. The gun's magazine had been removed from the firearm, but one round remained in the chamber, police said.

Police Chief Pat Berarducci said it appears the bullet ricocheted off the floor and struck the friend in the arm and leg. The man was taken by helicopter to a hospital 30 miles north in Cleveland, Berarducci said. His condition wasn't immediately known.

People need to learn gun safety before handling a real fire arm. Rule of thumb treat the gun like if there's a round in the chamber. Airsoft is a good alternative to practice gun safety with out live ammunition.

We have a gun problem so let's have EVEN MORE guns. And let's keep the gun show going so the frightened little white wing wackos will have somewhere to go to shoot each other. And anyone else who happens to come by.

The NRA tells us that we have nothing to fear from lawfully registered gun owners. They tell us that people kill, guns do not.

"I didn't KNOW...the gun was loaded...

And I'm SO sorry my friends...

I didn't KNOW...the gun was LOAD-ED...

And I'll never, ever do it again"

None of these imbeciles should've ever been allowed to play with firearms...as well as the vast majority of OTHER imbeciles who insist on playing with them (2nd Ammendment...yada, yada, yada)

If you can't even tell the difference between a dangerous tool and a pair of balls...

How are you going to differentiate between a bad guy and a "law-abiding citizen?"

Do you really need to differentiate when some stranger is coming after you inside your house?

So they didn't allow anyone to bring in their own guns after this?!!! Isn't that an infringement of their 2nd Amendment rights?

It is OK for gun show folks to keep ordinary citizens from bringing in their guns but it is wrong for the rest of us.

There are approx on average 35,000 people killed a year in car "accidents". That's about 95 a day, 365 days a year. there about 600 deaths a year due to accidental gun shots. Y not ban cars, there like 60% more dangerous. Oh that's right the gov feeds off them, sales tax, taxed fuel, registrations, lets not leave out the law enforcement tickets and astronomical amount of money made on DUI's. $155,000,000 in the state of pa alone in one year. funny how if it makes the gov money its ok and perfectly legal if its dangerous. to make another point....cigaret tax revenue...the list could go for miles and hours that absolutely crushes gun related everything.

k i'm done venting now haha

funny how you leave out the fact that automobiles actually provide billions of dollars in efficiency and commercial revenue for millions of people.

why would you only focus on the negative aspects of the medium ... and completely ignore the value it provides?

Verascity...your missing the point.

The Point is, something that is used by everyone is more dangerous then the firearm it's self. I can understand if you dont find yourself smart enough to use a firearm. How many, "I thought the car was in park" incidents were there. The point is, anything and everything in the hands of a human is going to be dangerous.

I have had my firearms for over 20 years, and not one issue. Because I know how to handle them. However, I have been driving longer and have had a few few fender benders. If my guns had a steering wheel and tires, my record would be pristine.
