New anti-Muslim ads up in NYC subway stations

NEW YORK The group that equated Muslim radicals with savages in advertisements last year has put up another set of provocative ads in dozens of New York City subway stations.

The American Freedom Defense Initiative purchased space next to 228 clocks in 39 stations for ads with an image of the burning World Trade Center and a quote attributed to the Quran saying, "Soon shall we cast terror into the hearts of the unbelievers."

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said the ads went up Monday and will run for a month.

The same group paid for ads to be displayed in 10 stations in September. Those ads implied enemies of Israel are "savages."

The MTA also sold space last year to competing advertisements that urged tolerance.

The American Freedom Defense Initiative was co-founded by conservative firebrand Pamela Geller, reports CBS New York station WCBS-TV, which notes she spoke to CBS New York radio station WCBS in December about the earlier ads.

SUGGEST YOU STUDY THE CURRENT EVENTS OF NORTHERN MALI AND ALSO THEIR RECENT HISTORY BACK ONE YEAR AND THEN DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT THE SHOE FITS. YOU WILL GRADUALLY BE HEARING MORE ABOUT THAT AREA AS THE YEAR WEARS ON. BY THE END OF NEXT YEAR, AMERICANS WILL KNOW THEIR GEOGRAPHY AS WELL AS WE KNOW IRAQ'S. THEY ARE NOT QUITTING, BOYS AND GIRLS. CBS: YOU SHOULD LAY OUT THE DRIVERS FROM THE PAST FORTY YEARS SO THAT THE CONVERSATION COULD BECOME COHERENT. HAVING 300 MILLION MINDS LOGGED ON TO THE PROBLEM COULD BE USEFUL.

These kind of ads that make one religion to be evil is unAmerican. It reminds me of the way Hitler tried to make the Jewish population the scapegoat for all the difficulties the German people had. Yes, there are evil extremist Muslims just like there are evil extremist Christians or Jews or fanatics in any other religion. We need to stand guard against picking on any religious or ethnic group in this country because, sooner or later, it might be your group. "First, they went after the....."

Were the creators of the Constitution that made religious freedom part of the Bill of Rights "chickens", too? Many religions are "ridiculous" and "controlling" in their extremes but we cannot discriminate and propogandize against their believers even as we guard against their influence on our core beliefs as Americans.

I have to wonder what this group thinks these ads are going to accomplish. Such bigotry will only increase tension, harden Muslims even more, stir up Christian and Jewish intolerance, and bring forth nothing positive.

HOORAY FOR WHOEVER POSTED THESE ADS.!!

TOLERANCE is exactly what caused any religious reference to be removed from public buildings, eliminated "Christmas trees from the White House" ( they now must be referred to as "holiday trees"), Christmas break, Easter break,
(now should be referred to as "winter break and spring break), forbids our troops from praying and the Pastors in the military from using the word "GOD" in their sermons, removed "Merry Christmas" from our retailers displays, allowed Islamic writings to appear on US postage stamps, removed the words "In GOD We TRUST" from these same stamps and a government who wants to remove these same words from paper currency, coins and the Pledge of Allegiance.!!!

The list of things we are being asked to "change" here in the US goes on and on.

All this in the name of "tolerance".

All these "changes" from a President (and his wife) who openly admit they have no respect for our Flag, wants to change our National Anthem etc. and is determined to eliminate a number of our freedoms the Constitution guarantees us.!

We need to take our country back; away from the Repugnanticans and the Democrooks who are bent on beating us down to the point where we are soon going to be living in third world country conditions.!!

Are we Christians any better? How many innocent Iraqi citizens were murdered when we invaded that country because our U.S. President George W. Bush claimed that his Christian God told him it was right to invade Iraq? How many innocent people all over the world have been murdered by "Christians" throughout the past two thousand years, including millions of Native Americans throughout the Americas?

Hypocrites all!

Open your mind, Chucky. How do you know for certain that "Very few Iraqi civilians were killed by American collateral damage"? How soon you forget the all the lies that were told to the American people by Bush and Cheney. What ever happened to those wmds? And why was Valerie Plame outed?

Like I said open up your mind. Research the Christian Crusades, the mass murders of millions of Native Americans throughout the Americas by "Christians". The forced "kidnapping" of Native American children to be sent off to be educated in the Christian "American" way. The Vietnam War, and the imprisonment of many U.S. citizens when they refused to fight in that war...even for religious reasons....and ALL of these wars were fought by a country that claims to be a Christian nation?

You are no better than the most militant Islamic extremists! Think about it.

CHUCK766, surely you jest when you claim "People killed in collateral damage are not murder victims". It's murder regardless of what you or our military labels it. Conservative estimates are that over 100,000 innocent Iraqi citizens lost their lives due to our invasion.

The specific speech where Bush claimed God told him to go to Iraq was reported by the BBC, The Independent, The Guardian, The Age, and The Washington Post in October 2005. Google it, my man:

"(In June 2003)...the former Palestinian foreign minister Nabil Shaath says Mr Bush told him and Mahmoud Abbas, former prime minister and now Palestinian President: "I'm driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, 'George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan.' And I did, and then God would tell me, 'George go and end the tyranny in Iraq,' and I did."

And "now again", Mr Bush is quoted as telling the two, "I feel God's words coming to me: 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East.' And by God, I'm gonna do it."

and how soon you forget all the lies that were told to the American people by Bush and Cheney. What ever happened to those wmds? And why was Valerie Plame outed? Etc. Etc. Etc.

Open up your mind, Chuckie. Do your own research beginning with the Christian Crusades. Then, if you've got the stomach for it, research about the mass murders of millions of Native Americans throughout the Americas by "Christians".

So, what is the difference between people who think like you and the most militant Islamic extremists? Think about it.

It is really offending. I have talked with my muslim friends and asked them about this. They have located it in the Quran and the ad is totally MISTRANSLATED. This is what he told me:

The word that is used as terror is(Er-rughb). Some translators translate the word as terror. But the exact translation would be "fright or dread". Terror has a different meaning for us in the 21st century. We ought to be careful with the translation, especially when people have bad intentions. Quran is a whole book and in other part of the Quran, it never asserts that it will give terror (with the 21st century view) to disbelievers. Disbelievers and believers are free to do anything until the Judgment Day. So, it will go against the God's promise if he asked muslims to give terror to disbelievers. This is just ridiculous. People only focus on couple hundreds (at most couple thousands)of extreme terrorists and never pay attention to other 1.2 Billion Muslims.
Extreme people have existed in every religion. It is only advertised when they are Muslims. It is sad and very offending for 1.2 billion muslims and other people.
