Falling refrigerator crushes L.A. man grabbing beer

LOS ANGELES A 60-something Los Angeles man was killed on New Year's Day after a refrigerator fell on him while he was trying to grab a beer, CBS Los Angeles reports.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. Tuesday as the man was getting the beer from a fridge in his garage, said Ed Winter, an assistant chief coroner for Los Angeles County.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, Winter said.

Hey Joesapper, what's more foolish?

Government regulations?

Or corporations that cut corners, whittle down safety, and be cheap just to pocket an extra penny in profit - at the expense of customers and their ability to rightfully fight back, since our money is what keeps them in business long-term?

So let's start looking at more issues than just "blame government for everything". Government can regulate, but it doesn't create. Let's see what is created, why it is created, how it is created, how it is distributed (and why), et cetera...

Care to think, or are you just satisfied with scapegoating government for all?

Well, joesapper, I wish you were wrong, but this is California, so you are probably right....there won't be just one new law, but this will probably spawn dozens of new laws, regulations, inspections and who knows what else....beer sizes will also probably have to limited, plus quantities of beer placed in fridges will have to be limited-depending on whether bottles, cans, etc....

Inspections = more workers.

Why are you against people working?

Never mind how conscientious you're not, since the for-profit entities only give a damn when you fork over your hard-earned money (or tax dollars) to them, which they think is just an entitlement based on every shortcut they've used to turn an unethical profit at YOUR expense...

you guys need to realize life ain't as simple as you pretend it to be...

This is something new.

I did know of a man that worked for a moving company that was killed after an upright player piano slipped on a staircase, crushing him against a concrete wall, as he stood behind it. "Killed by a player," was one remark of the made of the terrible incident.

And they are a helluva lot heavier than your typical fridge.

What about the guy that poured the uneven floor or the guy who left all the beer in the door while removing the beer from the inner part until the balance was lost ? And perhaps the gov will demand all fridges be bolted to the wall and floor or all fridges removed from garages or perhaps only restricted sizes of fridges should be used after an inspection has approved the site at the cost of the owner , or perhaps laws that restrict beer from stroage on the door .
Yes as sad as this is , the foolishness of gov control and the wild card of lawyers have gone way to far , as common sence is no longer common.
