SAN ANTONIO Gunfire broke out at a San Antonio movie theater late Sunday, leaving two people wounded and sending panicked moviegoers rushing for the exits and ducking for cover, according to CBS San Antonio affiliate KENS, which cites police and witnesses.
Witnesses tell kens numerous shots were fired inside and outside the Santikos Mayan Palace 14 theater complex around 9:25 p.m., setting off the scramble to safety before police and EMS arrived. The complex was evacuated and sealed off for several hours.
Bexar Xounty Sheriff's spokesman Louis Antu says the incident started when the man fired shots inside a nearby restaurant "and carried on into the theater." It's not clear what led to the shooting.
Antu says the man headed toward the theater and shot a male in the lot. The age and condition of the victim wasn't immediately known, but Antu says his injuries did not appear life-threatening.
The gunman entered the theater, Antu says, where he fired a shot but did not hit anyone. An off-duty sheriff's deputy working security then shot the gunman.
At one point, the suspect also fired at a San Antonio Police Department patrol car, Antu said.
"He was shooting at a marked unit," Antu said. "He knows he was shooting at an officer, so that's (an) automatic (charge of) attempted capital murder."
The suspect was taken to a hospital but was not immediately charged.
KENS says the shooting immediately sparked fears of a mass slaying like the one in July that killed 12 people and injured 58 at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo.
Cassandra Castillo waited anxiously outside the theater for her son, a projectionist at the theater.
"It brings back memories of the other theater shooting, and the elementary school shooting," she told the station. "You only think the worst."
Tara Grace, who was getting a drink from the concession stand when the shooting began, ran into the bathroom and locked herself in a stall with five other patrons to avoid the mayhem.
"We thought we were going to die," KENS quotes her as saying.

Best take the stalking trolling attention "needs" over to the trash at cnn...
"Class" up that joke outfit...
Too bad that brit didn't take on the liars for baby killers the way he took on the cowards of the pro gun crowd..
Killing a child by bullet or by bare hands is still killing a child..
Everyone knows bout the diseases many of the pro gun freaks suffer from..
Homophobic...Hate all "others" from round the Globe..Anti Immigrant, Anti Humanity..Heavy drug use....heavy legal drug use (alcohol)
Racist...ignorant militants who Hate this Government which seems to be coming back to the times of a Government for the People..
Just like all "leaders" of the nra...
Just like the "lobbyist" that cnn uses to try to improve ratings..
The big mouth disgrace with the dead rat on his head couldn't get it done...
Most of all, the insane pro gun nuts are cowards..
And "they" know it...Just like lifeless scum who troll the net...
"anonymously"
As of Friday, TSA's gun tally sat at 1,527 — 1,295 of which were loaded — and this week's count will likely bring the final tally just past 1,550 before the year ends)
"When people become accustomed to carrying their firearms everywhere they go, even in places like churches and schools in certain states, they can just simply forget they have them," said Matt Bennett
"Gun owners should all know where their weapons are, for our own safety and for the safety of those we live with and those around us...I always know where mine is. It's really kind of basic. Weapons are dangerous" said Nico Melendez, a T.S.A. official
How can those who live in fear...day in day out..."forget" where their guns are, forget they even have em...forget they are loaded (safety off/shell in chamber)
And MORE guns is the "answer"..the rallying cry of the dumbed down..
Appears that many guns owners shouldn't have the "right" to even own a squirt gun...let alone a killing machine...
I have a gun for the same reason I have fire extinguisher. I am not afraid I'm going to have a fire but recognize they happen sometimes. Better to be prepared than sorry.
wayne lapiss, or whatever the **** the morons name is... mr. carter "was our champion and fiercest warrior."
"fiercest warrior"??? Who spewed this gem While testifying before Congress..the misuse of guns was "a price we pay for freedom"
Really....
"mr" murderer....."joined the rifle association as a junior member at the age of 16. In a quarrel the next year, he fatally shot a 15-year-old boy. mr carter was convicted of murder, but the verdict was overturned by a higher court, which ruled that the trial judge's jury instructions had been incomplete"
"The case was buried in the past until 1981, when a reporter asked mr. carter about it. At first he denied knowledge, then refused to comment. Later he acknowledged the episode and expressed regret about the boy's death"
And during a "quarrel" that turned to murder...by "misuse of gun"...a 15 yr old payed the Ultimate "price for freedom"
Now that IS quite the "fierce warrior"....
"nra founded by veterans of Civil War to teach gun skills and safety
nra supported the first federal gun control laws in 1930s
nra began opposing some gun control in 1950s, and took on militant anti-gun control stance by 1970s
nra radicalism in 1980s-1990s led to loss of membership and political influence; major gun control bills passed Congress in 1990s"
Then came a psychopath extremist (now long dead) who took over the nra...& thus began the hate/fear propaganda = pure profit machine...
"the nra's opposition in the 1980s to congressional efforts to ban armor-piercing bullets and the Glock 17 pistol offended moderates within the nra as well as law enforcement officers and large sections of the public at large"
Another "leader" reared up...
"in 1968, heston had called for tougher gun control laws"
Then the "actor" came down from the mount and became as batsh*t crazy as it gets...
A "cultural war" was "raging across our land . . . storming our values, assaulting our freedoms," said the heston...thats with one s, not to be confused with the "Nobody Knows Hay Like Hesston" outfit..
So the "culture war" is just another "new" old thing...
And the lunatic fringe became more lunatic..if thats possible..
Actually having the guts to throw rallies after many deaths at the "hands" of gun owners..
Fear and hate and paranoia is a really good way to maximize profits..
Guess thats why they don't just give them guns away...
& the big h's "legacy" lives on...unlike him...
