I've spent a good deal of time in third world countries where the people are not armed and they all have an extremely high level of crime. not because they are poor but because the military and the gov't officials have guns and those two groups rape and brutalize without mercy. I wish Americans who are extremely spoiled by the safety they enjoy could live one week, nay one day in these areas and get a good dose of being a real victim. Or how about joining the military and spending your time overseas digging up mass graves happily provided by the government who was supposed to protect their people. Half of the bile being spewed by anti gun people is just that. Ignorance at it's finest spewed by people who have never left their own back yards but insist that they know it all.

Even if you had an actual intelligent point of view, you ruin it by the ignorant way you present it. I may not agree with how you think, but I'm not "spewing bile" for God's sake. And I've most certainly left my back yard before. My father earned a purple heart in Korea. My son, a military officer, has been to the middle east not once, but EIGHT times and his wife, children, sisters, and I.. we all have heard the stories by now. Rational people can have a discussion on this board or elsewhere and educate one another to different viewpoints.. But behaving like an angry extremist <you-know-what> won't help anyone. It will only shut people down.

First, I want to say that I am.. just so saddened by the loss of life that's bringing us all here to this discussion. I believe in the right to own a gun and keep it in your home to protect yourself. I believe in being able to own a gun to hunt for food. But I also believe that things have changed. But I just want to think this through.. So it's been discussed on here that "arms" doesn't just mean, "muskets" like when our forefathers first talked about this issue. So "arms" can mean a lot of things. But what if we continue to develop our legal weapons to the point where they're terrible enough to take out an entire building in a blink of an eye.. Then is that still okay? Will there ever be a line? If so, when and where will it be drawn?

Also, it's been said a million times, "guns don't kill people.. people kill people". And I believe that's true too, for the most part. But life is not that cut and dried is it? I mean.. if you were to use that same exact thought process and replace a semi automatic weapon with say.. a nuclear bomb.. then are you saying it's okay for all of us to own those too? I mean, after all, they don't blow up by themselves.. PEOPLE push those buttons. And we we can't own one.. why not? Might it be because they're TOO DANGEROUS and designed to completely wipe out life as quickly as possible?

And finally, for the train of thought people keep latching onto about how drugs are illegal but people still do that anyway. So in their mind, gun control won't do any good. Others with similar thought processes say, just look at the bombing in Oklahoma.. that was made with LEGAL substances. I think these people are not seeing past the ends of their noses. Because sure, if we beef up our gun control, there will still be some people out there who will get their hands on the killing machines. (and I'm not talking about simple self protection type hand guns or hunting rifles, either.) But even if it's true that people might still illegally obtain these weapons, does that mean we have to make it easy for them?? I mean, yep.. meth labs are illegal but some idiots out there still produce meth in their basements. So based on your logic, does this mean we should legalize it? There is no black and white answer here.. but people are all very extreme for the most part. I think the best answer is gonna lie somewhere in between, the right to bear arms and gun control.

No one (except the military or police force) needs a gun that can shoot a half dozen bullets in a second. Why make it easy for crazy people to kill others at this magnitude? Bad enough that someone can bash you in the head at any given moment.. and of course there's really nothing we can do about that except be careful.. but why make it EASIER for them? But do we have the right to have a personal hand gun kept in a locked drawer in case of an intruder? Damned right we do. Do we have the right to shoot deer and other game for food? Yep.

But I really don't think we should have the right to buy a handgun without at least a small waiting period (give some crazy person 24 hours to cool down instead of blow their ex away the same day they bought the gun). And I really don't think we need super high caliber assault rifles, etc. either. Those guns are people killers. We need people protectors.. THERE IS A LINE. I pray we can all grow up, shut up, and get together long enough to find it.

I agree with you but I am afraid that they will go too far as to forbid any gun to ordinary people and then live in a country where we're at crazy ppl's mercy.

NRA rants are a bit much. A person could take a bomb such as Timothy McVeigh did on April 19, 1995. One of the main ingredients was fertilizer....yes, the kind used to grow crops. The damage was devastating to the Alfred P. Murrah building and surrounding ones in Oklahoma City. The explosion killed 168 people, including 19 children in the day care center on the second floor, and injured 450 others. So again, tell me that you want guns to be banned. When someone with a thirst to kill wants to kill, he or she will find a way.

The Constitution's right to bear "arms" meant muskets, NOT semi-automatic assault weapons. The NRA and it's radical members should be charged with aiding and abetting TERRORISM and dealt with accordingly.

It should be remembered that it says: "The peoples right to keep.." It does not read: "...A peson`s right..." The commonwealths & states can be seen as an expression of "The People(s)) There is the caveat of remembering Europe in the 3Os and had the people been armed, world herstory might be very different.

This isn't about the NRA , its not guns that kill people you idiots its STUPID PEOPLE. if not guns could have been something else. this story was not for everyone to go off on the politicians nor the NRA about gun laws. Its about a devastating tragedy that happen in an elementary school! keep in mind all your bickering about gun control is doing NOTHING to console these people who lost people they LOVE. instead of being close minded and worried about that remember not all murders or heinous acts are CAUSED by guns they are caused by IMPROPER BACKGROUND CHECKS RESULTING IN CRIMINALS AND CRAZY FOLKS ACQUIRING GUNS. so yes make the laws a touch stricter on background checks.

Now have a tad of respect for those grieving and say a prayer that they will get the help they need and the comfort they need in this time of such heartbreaking sadness. My children and i will definitely pray for them and hope they can make it through this though i know it has to be hard and will never be fully gotten over.

All children killed were 6 or 7 years old. NRA supporters how can you heartlessly defend your position to never touch current gun laws that might reduce the possiblitity of this happening again?

We as a country, adults and parents are suppose to be the protectors of our children but republicans and the NRA blocks every attempt to protect them.

My condolences to the families of this tragedy. We have been thru this too many times and we must begin to address this. However, do not expect any help from republicans as they are in the pockets of the NRA and other entities hostile to ordinary Americans. Republicans must be voted out to remove their obstruction to making progress on this and other issues. Elections have consequences, and electing republicans to control congress will result in no movement to begin to address this or other issues America so desperately needs to address.

I will never be able to wrap my mind around why so many stupid people get on their computers and say stupid stuff like God let this happen because God is not allowed in Schools...First let me say most people don't want teachers who can change words and meanings to teach their children about GOD. They want for them to learn about God in church or at home.

And as for making guns illegal so the evil people of this world cant use them to kill... PEOPLE!!!! use your brains please.. Meth is not legal but its killing young people its warping their minds and bodies every day ... if someone wants to kill a bunch of little kids they will find a way. That is because guns are not what kills people, you have never in your life seen a gun walk into a crowded school or mall or theater and kill people you have seen mentally ill young men do it.

Want to make a difference stop turning your head when you see young people who kill small animals.. stop looking the other way as a man who killed small animals gets out of going to jail for molesting a child.. and then two years later he has killed a family of four to molest the younger kids without worry about being caught...when that man was a boy and killed animals for fun he should have been institutionalized. Instead it was allowed to go on and flourish until he became a full blown murderer. Why do innocent people have to die before we say no .. he is not a good person a good member of our society... he can not live among innocent people?
