NEWTOWN, Conn. The medical examiner who oversaw the examination of the victims of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School said all were shot multiple times by rifle.

Connecticut Chief Medical Examiner Dr. H. Wayne Carver II told a news conference Saturday that the deaths are classified as homicides.

The victims had between 3 to 11 wounds each.

"I've been at this for a third of a century, my sensibilities may not be the average man's, but this is probably the worst I have ever seen, the worst that I know any of my colleagues have seen," Dr. Carver said.

He said he and his team worked through the night to examine and identify the victims, praising them for their work, including one examiner who, he believed, was on her first day on the job.

He said officials presented photographs to families to help them ID their children, who were all ages 6 or 7.

All of the victims' bodies have been released to the families or to funeral homes.

Dr. Carver said he will examine the suspected gunman, Adam Lanza, and his mother, Nancy Lanza, Sunday morning.

Also at this afternoon's press briefing, State Police spokesman Lt. Paul Vance said there was no report of any altercation involving Adam Lanza at the school in the days prior to the shootings.

Meanwhile, the father of the gunman said his family is saddened and struggling to make sense of what happened.

Peter Lanza said in a statement released late Saturday that "our family is grieving along with all those who have been affected by this enormous tragedy."

Peter Lanza also said "no words can truly express how heartbroken we are" and that relatives are "in a state of disbelief and trying to find whatever answers we can."

Everyone is missing the "real" point. This country was founded on violence, murder and death. Perhaps you remember the Chinese Exclusion Act? Remember the phrase not having a ********** Chance? Or perhaps you remember the Trail of Tears? Remember the phrase The only good Redskin is a Dead Redskin? How about what Americans did to the Japanese Americans? Does Jim Crow and lynching ring a bell? Americans are the most violent people on Earth, we are destroying our country, turning our people destitute and eliminating our rights ourselves. Its a little too late for Gun Control or anger management. Further, a country that created Abu Graib, Guantanamo Bay, the secret prisons and prison ships around the world, a country that launched two recent wars on faked justifications and killed more than a million civilians, a country that overthrew 13 legitimate democracies, and that installed and financed 42 bloody and brutal dictatorships around the world should seek therapy, and not at an NRA meeting.

Don't you think these types of attitudes filter down into the general population with the aforementioned effects? Let me put it to you this way. Does anyone remember Roy Rogers? He was "King" of the singing Cowboys back in the '50s. He was so popular that even as a black child me and my buddies would run around the neighborhood playing cowboys and Indians with our toy guns ....

Here's the thing; Roy Rogers carried two six-shooters, had a dog named "Bullet" and a horse named "Trigger".

You tell me what's wrong with that picture?

I am not into guns, and I do not believe I will ever own one, but I wish to preserve those rights for those who do. However, please do not rant and rail against the president about this one gun rights people. It will not help your cause. If it comes down to a choice between you and your collection and the life of a child, I will not support you. Help us find a way to preserve your freedoms, but help us preserve the lives of our children first.

ACTUAL SOLUTION

With the simple act of creating a staff/administration position that required intensive firearms training this could all but guarantee the safety of our children as well as create a 1/4 of a million new jobs plus all of the associated jobs required for training etc.

This could be implemented with the stroke of a pen and completely eliminate these horrendous acts within 12 months or less.

That would give us some time to focus on the real problem which is the fact that these monsters are allowed to stalk the streets filled with otherwise normal society.

You would need multiple such trained people to provide full time coverage. And why would you think that a deranged killer might not kill the supposed "guaranteed" protector first? We're supposed to have such "protectors" available at every school? Have you tried to develop the cost of such a "guaranteed" protection plan?

So what your saying is that it would be far to expensive to actually protect our most precious resource.

You would rather place a band-aid upon this by enacting ineffective legislation that will take years to implement and most likely accomplish NOTHING.

Just look to Austrailias failed gun control policies, their violent crime rate has steadily increased accross the board since these laws were passed.

Do some honest research for yourself instead of chewing on the steady mis-information pushed by the media propaganda mach.

Some countries have roughly the same gun ownership as the U.S. does. Yet they have a far lower rate of gun killings per 100,000 people. The difference is especially drastic in Switzerland, yet Switzerland has about the same suicide rate from guns.

Is there something about American culture that causes the much higher incidence of actions against others, rather than oneself?

Switzerland has much more stringent gun control.

"The Swiss army has long been a militia trained and structured to rapidly respond against foreign aggression. Swiss males grow up expecting to undergo basic military training, usually at age 20 in the Rekrutenschule (German for "recruit school"), the initial boot camp, after which Swiss men remain part of the "militia" in reserve capacity until age 30 (age 34 for officers).
Each such individual is required to keep his army-issued personal weapon (the 5.56x45mm Sig 550 rifle for enlisted personnel and/or the 9mm SIG-Sauer P220 semi-automatic pistol for officers, medical and postal personnel) at home. Up until October 2007, a specified personal retention quantity of government-issued personal ammunition (50 rounds 5.56 mm / 48 rounds 9mm) was issued as well, which was sealed and inspected regularly to ensure that no unauthorized use had taken place. The ammunition was intended for use while traveling to the army barracks in case of invasion.
In October 2007, the Swiss Federal Council decided that the distribution of ammunition to soldiers shall stop and that all previously issued ammo shall be returned. By March 2011, more than 99% of the ammo has been received. Only special rapid deployment units and the military police still have ammunition stored at home today.
When their period of service has ended, militiamen have the choice of keeping their personal weapon and other selected items of their equipment. In this case of retention, the rifle is sent to the weapons factory where the fully automatic function is removed; the rifle is then returned to the discharged owner. The rifle is then a semi-automatic or self-loading rifle.
The government sponsors training with rifles and shooting in competitions for interested adolescents, both male and female.

A "shooting society " somewhere in Switzerland; people come to such ranges to complete mandatory training with service arms, or to shoot for sport and competition.

The sale of ammunition - including Gw Pat.90 rounds for army-issue assault rifles - is subsidized by the Swiss government and made available at the many shooting ranges patronized by both private citizens and members of the militia. There is a regulatory requirement that ammunition sold at ranges must be used there."

Semi-automatic rifles shouldn't be legally sold.

There's no need to have one for hunting. I can take deer with a single-shot or bolt-action rifle. We should ban semi-auto rifles immediately. It'll take years and years to eliminate them, but it's time to start. Also, we should institute primer control to make it difficult for reloaders. And, we should tax the crap out of rifle ammo to make it much more expensive. You should have to have a special permit to buy rifle ammo and should only be allowed a certain number of loads per year. There's sensible stuff we can do to make things a bit more difficult for all the wannabe Rambos out there. Regular citizens have no need to own a semi-auto rifle just like they have no need for shoulder-fired missiles or tanks or fighter planes. Anyone who can't successfully shoot game without a semi-auto rifle shouldn't be out hunting or shooting in the first place.

Maybe we should ban individuals that push an agenda that has absolutely nothing to do with actually solving the real issues.

For once in your life, try and see farther than the end of your nose and realize that the problem is not needing more gun control but in needing the mental health community to be held accountable for their failed experiments perpetrated upon an unsuspecting populace.

In the meantime if there was an Emergency Response Specialist position on staff on every campus in America this garbage would cease tomorrow, not some future date maybe.
