Man pushed in front of NYC subway train, killed

NEW YORK Police on Monday night released new surveillance video in the search for a suspect who shoved a man onto the subway tracks, where a train struck and killed him.

The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. Monday at a subway station at 49th Street and 7th Avenue, just blocks from Times Square, reports CBS Station WCBS.

Ki Suk Han, 58, of Elmhurst, was hit by a southbound train after he was pushed onto the tracks.

The video shows the men arguing seconds before police say the suspect shoved Han to his death. The men are not believed to have known each other.

Han was taken to Roosevelt Hospital, but he is believed to have died at the scene, crushed in the narrow space between the train and the platform. It was a sight so terrible that the conductor had to be treated for trauma.

Witnesses said Han was still alive in the moments after he was struck.

"He was moving, he was shaking his head up and down," witness Joel Parkington told WCBS correspondent Lou Young. "I left before he stopped breathing. When I was leaving, was still alive."

At Han's home Monday night, police delivered the awful news, and escorted a woman from the home on 57th Avenue in Elmhurst.

As of Monday night, the killer remained at large. Police are searching for a person of interest who is described as a black male in his 20s or 30s, around 5 feet 10 inches, weighing approximately 240 pounds. He was wearing a grey T-shirt, a down coat and a beanie-style knit cap. The man is also described as having short dreadlocks.

This is definitely a tragic incident. All public transportation systems need to look at situations like this one and consider ways to better protect their customers. How many people will have to get pushed in front of a train before they consider the fact that the platforms aren't safe?

I have been thinking about the man who was pushed onto the train tracks and was killed. I am also thinking of the person who pushed him. This man who is being prosecuted for pushing this man onto the train tracks was asking this man to get away from him. On the video (with the audio) he is asking him to move away from him - the man who is being prosecuted was being harassed by this man before he pushed him. It is unfortunate that they were on the train platform and that the train was approaching when he pushed him. It is unfortunate that this man was killed by the train. It is unfortunate that the bystanders did not help him. I just hope and pray that the man who did push him is not prosecuted beyond what is deserved. It was an accident. I do not believe that he pushed him in front of the train to kill him.

a decent young person wouldn't curse out at a man much older than himself who probably doesn't speak English. I have seen a lot of times that a Black person curse at a kind looking non black and tell him or her to get away from him. It doesn't mean his victims actually harassed him. It's just a way for these evil monsters to get back at their victims for finding out they want to stalk them and dare to try to defend themselves from them.

I blame the subway. It's simply too easy to push someone in front of a moving train. Where I live, we don't have subways & no one has ever been killed by one! As absurd as this sounds, this is exactly what anti-gun nuts sound like when they blame guns for murder instead of the person pulling the trigger.

You are absolutely right, savage jungle beasts don't belong in a first world civilization.....especially ones like the Colorado shooter, the white male named James Holmes that shot and killed several people while they were attempting to watch a movie.

An excuse surely was used that said person who took photo might have been pulled down. It really doesn't take long to say to someone standing by you let go help this guy now. Of course, this guy should have run to the front of the station at a minimum or if possible, stood in the middle of the two third rails until the train passed. The guy that pushed him has no excuse and should be locked up awaiting trial. There was no excuse. Very sad indeed.

That could describe 90% of the criminals in NYC.

Obviously, we need to ban subway trains. If that subway train didn't exist, he would be alive today.
