No Powerball winner, next jackpot a record $425M

DES MOINES, Iowa Lottery officials say nobody has won the Powerball jackpot and the top prize will now increase to about $425 million for the next drawing, the largest jackpot ever for the game.

Iowa Lottery spokeswoman Mary Neubauer said sales were strong over the holiday week for Saturday's drawing, which was estimated at $325 million before the numbers were picked. That was the fourth-largest jackpot in the game's history.

Neubauer says the jackpot for Wednesday's drawing could go even higher than the estimated $425 million because sales pick up in the days before record drawings.

The previous top Powerball prize was $365 million, won in 2006 by ConAgra Foods Workers in Lincoln, Neb.

The Powerball numbers for Saturday were 22-32-37-44-50, and the Powerball was 34.

Instead of giving ONE PERSON $425 million... why not give 425 persons $1 million each??? Oh wait, I forgot where I live; the USA... the country of GREED!

Forever, every year at this time the powerball or state lottery builds to insanity because no one has all 6 numbers week after week. Makes one think the lottery is controlled. Yes winning would be great, biggest problem would be hiding from the 47% that would write and knock your door down trying to get there fair share they think you would owe them.

Lottery ticket purchases will now zoom thanks to intelligent lottery ticket buyers. When it was only $100 million or so not so many sales, who needs it? At $200 million more clever buyers. $300 million, more, and so on. What a bunch of idiots.

Okay everyone, spend $10 for tickets!

Just think, if we all put in $10 to help all of our society, instead of this goofy redistribution of wealth gambling scheme, we'd all be better off...

Money can't buy happiness. That amount of money? You'd have to be a psychologist in order to deal with the full amount just thrown on you. Even then? It's a great dream, but little else. Reality is something.

Money can buy happiness for the most part. Just the thought of waking up knowing all of my bills are paid in full and I'd never have to work another day in my life is good enough for me. Reality is reality for better or worst so you should also live every moment to the fullest.

T_H_2010,

Absolutely true. Money worries, economy worries, unemployment, no opportunities, colleges fleecing students, and slew of other issues - money indeed brings happiness. Or at least comfort in knowing one can eat, get the tools and training to continuing to remain educated and employable.

Still, Jesus taught for free and was able to live a well-fed life. These days, Jesus would want a six-figure sum to teach... he'd change his name to something else as well. Probably an anagram of "Santa"...
