Police arrest Mo. man planning mass shooting at "Breaking Dawn" screening, Walmart

BOLIVAR, Mo. A 20-year-old man is in custody after his mother contacted the police, fearing that he was planning to commit mass murder at a "Twilight" screening and a Missouri Walmart.

Court documents obtained by CBS affiliate KCTV in Kansas City, Mo. show that Blaec Lammers had purchased assault rifles and more than 400 rounds of ammunition. His mother had told authorities on Thursday that her son had purchased weapons similar to those used by James Holmes, the Colorado movie theater massacre shooter.

Holmes is charged with killing 12 people and injuring at least 58 more by firing in a crowded midnight screening of "The Dark Knight" rises on July 20, 2012 in Aurora, Co.

"Blaec Lammers stated that he had a lot in common with the people involved in (recent mass shootings). Blaec Lammers stated that he was quiet, kind of a loner, had recently purchased firearms and didn't tell anybody about it, and had homicidal thoughts," according to court documents.

Lammers admitted to police that he had bought a rifle on Monday and another on Tuesday with the intention of shooting audience members who attended a showing of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 2" at the B&B theater in Bolivar, Mo. on Sunday, KCTV reported. He also planned to continue shooting at a local Walmart because he thought he could have access to additional ammunition. He had been practicing with the weapons at a shooting range in Aldrich.

"Blaec Lammers stated that he would walk into the store and just start shooting people at random and if he ran out of ammunition . . . he would just break the glass where the ammunition is stored and get some more and keep on shooting until police arrived. Blaec Lammers then stated that he would then turn himself into police when they arrived," court documents said.

Lammers is being held on $500,000 bond and charged with first-degree assault, making a terroristic threat and armed criminal action.

Lammers had previously threatened to stab and kill a Walmart employee and had stalked the employee around the store before he we was stopped by authorities. He has not had any prior convictions.

Det. Dusty Ross of the Bolivar Police Department told the Bolivar News that police did not think anyone else was involved.

Technically, The threat of violence is enough to constitute assault. No physical contact is necessary for this charge. Battery, on the otherhand, Physical contact is required.

I like how people with zero knowledge with gun laws talking about Assault Weapons.

I really want to know,
- how is putting a fore grip/adjustable stock/pistol grip on a mini-14 suddenly makes a target rifle into a so-called "killing machine"?

- How is having a bayonet lug making the rifle/shotgun an assault weapon, despite there was few killed by a bayonet in previous years?

- how is it justified to prohibit so called "assault weapon" when only 2.5 percent murders were committed by rifle of any kind according to FBI UCR? While knives killed almost 5 times more people?

Agreed. In 2012, the AR-15, M4, and many others like them are by far the most popular and useful rifles for hunting, competition, self and home defense, and target shooting. They are also the most technologically advanced and safest rifles on the market. I hunt wild hogs with an M4 carbine. These guns are almost never used in the commission of a crime.

And,by the way, in order to actually be defined as an "assault weapon", the gun would have to be fully automatic. These civilian versions are only semi-automatic, so by the true definition, these rifles don't qualify to be defined as such.

First of all how does someone who has been arrested for stalking buy guns legally? Having said that I agree with the guy that says what exactly are they charging this person with "thinking evil thoughts". He could have just said he planned to do a lot of target practice and that his mother was just over reacting. Maybe I just didn't see it in the article but how did they get "first degree assault", I didn't see any victim mentioned and nothing about him resisting arrest. Who did he assault? Maybe he just wanted some place to spend the winter and this jail obsessed country is only to happy to oblige.

Second Amendment. He has his rights, period.

Don't agree? Help Lammers state his case to the NRA when he's let out of prison.

It clearly states that he,Lammers, admitted to buying the guns to shoot people in the theatre and then to continue shooting random people at Walmart. He obviously did not buy these guns for recreation since he said himself he was going to keep shooting until the police arrived...

The headline reads 'Cops Foil Breaking Dawn Plot'. Seems to me that his mom foiled the plot, not the cops. More journalistic ineptitude.

Okay, now that everyone has brought forth their ideas about how much nicer a world without guns would be, let's discuss reality. All of the gun control crowd want the laws and the second amendment to change. How many of you actually think that changing these things is actually going to make the guns go away? Laws have not made marijuana, cocaine, and methamphetamine disappear. Laws did not make alcohol go away. The law of supply and demand trumps all legislation. Until you make the demand go away, you will never get rid of the guns. The guns already exist and outlawing them would create a black market that would make drug dealers look like amateurs. Sure you could have jackbooted thugs kick in everyone's doors and confiscate guns but it would fall pitifully short of eliminating guns in this country. Do any of you have a realistic idea about how to get rid of the guns? Face it folks, Pandora's box is open.

Okay, so the world's a steaming pile. Let's not be bothered to do a single damn thing. Who gives a rat if things get worse, and it will get worse either way and we just won't care regardless of what happens. We don't care for society or responsibility.

That's what your post boils down to.

Even Pandora is spinning in her grave.

Hypno, If the worlds a sinking boat, you can either put on a life vest or spend your time complaining about the quality and workmanship of products now these days. If the world is armed, your dumb to be the one that isnt and saying woe is me about the condition of things wont help you much.
