Frederick Humphries is the FBI agent who first brought the case of David Petraeus' affair to the Bureau, CBS News confirms.
As a friend of Jill Kelley, Humphries took her concerns about harassing emails to the FBI's cyber squad in Tampa, CBS News' Bob Orr reports. Eventually that investigation mushroomed and led to the discovery of the Broadwell/Petraeus affair and led to the retired general's resignation as CIA director.
Law enforcement sources say Humphries became disgruntled with being cut out of the information loop as the investigation grew wider and he eventually leaked information about the case to members of Congress.

It began in June as a low-level cyber investigation in Florida. Kelley has done fundraising for the U.S. military and Humphries is a veteran counter-terrorism agent, although the details of their relationship are unclear. The FBI quickly traced the emails to Broadwell, a former Army intelligence officer and author of "All In: The Education of General David Petraeus."
The FBI investigation uncovered about a half-dozen e-mails from Broadwell to Kelley. While they did not openly name Petraeus, some of them contained information about his travel schedule - details not usually available to the public.
Concerned that someone may have breached Petraeus e-mail, the investigation continued. It took the FBI some time to discover that Broadwell got the information from Petraeus himself and without his knowledge, rather than a breach.
Who is Jill Kelley?
Once the FBI found sexually explicit e-mails between Broadwell and Petraeus, they realized they had stumbled across an extra-marital affair. The relationship occurred while Broadwell was promoting her biography on tour.
Humphries later brought details of the case to Congressman Dave Reichert. Rep. Reichert then relayed the information to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., raising concerns of a national security risk. Some lawmakers expressed frustration they were left out of the loop.
No one has been charged in the case. President Barack Obama said Monday there's no evidence Petraeus' and Broadwell's relationship posed a risk to national security.
Humphries, a veteran counter-terrorism agent, has since been reassigned and his status is being reviewed by the FBI.
Sources also tell CBS News that Humphries once sent a shirtless picture of himself to Kelley, but it happened a long time ago, well before the investigation.

Broadwell was former intelligence. People in intelligence never stop collecting the stuff, and they never stop using it. There is no way she was laying with the general for sexual satisfaction. 60 doesn't go into 40 as many times as 40 go into 60,i.e.,0.66666666666666666666666666666667 vs.,1.5. Our whole country has and is being sold down the drain by inexperienced people and it won't get better. The FBI agent needs to be sent down the road. He is not disceplined. He insulted all of his supervisors, including the Director of the FBI. The 1st congressmen owed it to the FBI Director the courtesy of asking Humphries why he didn't follow the proper chain of command, before making his partisan political move by contacting Cantor.
Reaspm Humphries was not included in the investigation? He had already proven he would not be trusted by the FBI, or anyone else, except maybe Kelly.
Our enemies are pleased. The rest of the world are laughing about the greatest country ever, as it falls apart and no one can do anything to fix it.
Then the idea of Ms. Rice for Sect'y of State, and Kerry for Sect'y of Defense? Egotists, nor blabber-mounths belong in those positions.
Petraeus, Allen, Humphries and the two girls? You're all disgraces to your country. To think that they likely all made jokes about Bill. At least his woman controls him, now.
Bill Clintons affairs ... were also a national security risk. He, as POTUS and Commander-in-Chief could also have been blackmailed. in fact, Clinton's choice of women was more dangerous than was Patraeus'.... b/c at least Patraeus' mistress had top secret clearances, a Harvard Doctorate, prior military service as an officer... and current service as an intelligence officer.
Monica... and some of the other women Clinton chose were far more ... risky, right?
What do we do about a cheating President and C-in-C when he sets himself up to be... blackmailed?
Normal citizen would never get this service from fbi.....
The Talmud of Jmmanuel. [sigh} What -- another new "scripture" book now exists? Kind of an interesting name: Talmud (the Law) and Jmmanuel (a take-off on Immanual, Jesus, God with US).. and just in time for Christmas too. ;-)
