Man stabbed outside Ore. Planned Parenthood

GRANTS PASS, Ore.A confrontation outside a southern Oregon Planned Parenthood health center on Tuesday ended with a protester stabbing another man, police said.

Earlier in the day, a woman argued with the demonstrator outside the health center. She returned later with a man who then attacked the protester, Grants Pass police Lt. Dennis Ward said.

The man was stabbed multiple times in the abdomen and at least once in the neck, police said. There was no immediate word on his condition.

The demonstrator had signs denouncing abortion and Planned Parenthood, but Planned Parenthood for Southwestern Oregon spokeswoman Sarah Mosely said the clinic only provides health services, and doesn't perform abortions.

"We don't have a lot of details," she said. "It just appears to be a tragic situation. Our thoughts are with the people who have been injured and their loved ones."

Police handcuffed the protester, who had blood on his clothing, the Grants Pass Daily Courier reported. The protester was being detained during the investigation, Ward said.

Police didn't immediately release the name of either man.

Neighbor Charlotte Cook said the protester would accost people coming and going through the area.

"It was an accident looking for a place to happen," she said.

Cherie Adams said he would yell obscenities at her when she walked past him, and she changed her route to work.

"He's been out there for months," she said. "He's screaming at people.

"I had a feeling something like this would happen."

The story by CBS is grossly misleading. I drive by this location every day and the protester has always been respectful of the law. I have never seen him disrupting anything -- he only held up signs. He defended himself when the attacker would not stop...in fact, the attack was stopped. Good for him. You disgusting liberals simply cannot stand an opponent standing up for traditional values -- you freak out and call daddy to hurt the conservative. You attack....we defend, and defend well.

The complete utter stupidity of the people who comment on stories such as this one never ceases to amaze me.YOU ARE ALL MISSING THE POINT ! This story has LESS to do with the abortion issue and MORE to do with VIOLENCE BY PROXY--a WOMAN always seems to get herself in some sort of trouble and when she can't fight her own battles, what does she go ahead and do--gets a MAN to do her dirty work for her ! And what almost always happens in situations like this;the "White Knight" (man) either gets severely injured or dies as a result of protecting the WOMAN,while the woman comes out of the situation unscathed and very often is having a great laugh at the very stupid men that always come to the aid of the damsel in distress.Men are just as much as women to blame for this situation.Whenever a woman finds herself in a predicament created by her own actions,it's time for all of the "White Knights" (men) to turn the other way and let women fight their own battles--after all, women are "equals",aren't they ?!

What a convoluted piece of writing and editing! I read this piece three times and I'm still trying to figure out who exactly was stabbed and by whom. I only surmaised it was the protester who stabbed the man who returned with the woman. However, this is not what the lead states. This is not CBS quality news.

Yes, this is typical quality writing for CBS. The abortors attacked the anti guy and got stabbed. So CBS writes a convoluted story so you can't understand it. And what happened to the stabeee.

Someone did some slective reporting, because the AP wire had the full story from the local Grants Pass newspaper.

VA_Jill says: "He doesn't sound like a legitimate protestor, but more like a mentally ill person."

Why is the protestor illegitimate or mentally ill? Because he protests abortion or because he defends himself when attacked?

If the woman hadn't picked a fight then left and brought her boyfriend back to bully the protestor, he wouldn't have been hurt.

Nobody told this pugnacious dumb ass to attack. He initiated a physical encounter with somebody he obviously thought he could best, not realizing his victim was willing to protect themselves and he paid the price.

This is what happens when you have a political party that broadens/maintains its base by telling susceptible Americans who it is "OK" to look down upon/despise/hate.

It makes the extremes of human history - otherwise, virtually incomprehensible to me - much more believable when I can so readily find an example of a political ideology that professes itself to be the savior of Christianity that, in practice, gets away with being the antithesis of Christianity.

This is the kinda of thing we should expect from people who hear Senators like Jon Kyle R(AZ) say on the floor of the Senate that 98% of all abortions are performed by planned parenthood, which was a absolute falsehood. A spokes person then said after the comment that it was not supposed to be a factual statement. Well no **** really anyone with half a brain new it was a lie the second the words came out of his mouth. What I find amazing is he didn't actually take the comment back he just said it wasn't factual. Not to worry though, because there are enough delusional people like this protester who don't deal in facts in the their daily lives.

Yes, because he is the only one prone to exaggeration? Here is the tricky part.. nobody knows exactly how many are performed, since they left reporting as arbitrary. Something you won't find anywhere else.

Not to mention, they don't have to list causes of death as "complications of abortions", even though some do and the numbers reported by the Dept. of Health are actually staggering, even with that fact. Since Hospitals commonly DO list it, as such.

There are dramatic lies on both sides of the subject, so please, save face and refrain form being surprised by just those you disagree with do it, because those you support are ALSO blowing smoke up your can, and you don't seem to have any problem with it.

The events at the Planned Parenthood Clinic in Oregon are a sad situation all around.
The protestor was obviously not a normal acting man, nor was he likely a Christian, or if a Christian, one with a right understanding of Scriptures or even reality, for that fact.
The police should have been called in long ago, before anyone felt the need to change their route to the facility. If this man was yelling, screaming obscenities and accosting women on their way into the facility, he was breaking the law and needed to be arrested for that long before this happened.
We don't know that this man was a Christian, nor why he was there, nor why he acted the way he did, leading up to this tragic event for which Christians, pro-lifers, conservatives and Romney supporters will all be besmirched as being of the same motives and character. This is another incident of a lone person who has acted according to the dictates of his own mind, and without the support or encouragement of Christians, pro-lifers, conservative and Romney supporters. As one who is all four of these, I denounce that man's actions as evil and unlawful. I also denounce the in-actions of others who should have called the police to have him removed and/or arrested for his previous unlawful behaviors, (if in fact they happened as reported in the story). This all could have been avoided had people had the backbone to stand up for what the law says concerning the right to access, whether or not one is for or against abortion.
Nevertheless, this is a situation that will be profitable for no one.
I am praying for the victim of the stabbing, the repentance of the protestor and that we would all come around to our senses concerning the evil of our society as demonstrated by the murder of innocents by abortion.

You can be an apologist for Christians if you like, but this is the kinda of behavior one would expect of a person who thinks they are acting in accordance with the creator of the universe.

Jeeprules.. sorry, where do you find anywhere that this man even claimed to be a Christian? Heck, judging by his actions, he obviously was nothing close to one.

It's also bad form to assume that all that are against abortion are that way, because of their religious beliefs.

You will find many Christians that support the woman's choice... the general thought is she will be the one to have to face God and answer, not others...

Some oppose it, because of their history on the subject and the lies covered up by the industry...

There are people that take to extremes on both sides of the subject, without regard to any religious belief.
