Sandusky speaks: "In my heart, I know I did not do these alleged, disgusting acts"

Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky will be sentenced Tuesday after being convicted in June of 45 counts of child sexual abuse for molesting 10 boys over 15 years after meeting them through a charity for at-risk children.

His lawyer, Joe Amendola, told CBS News Sandusky intends to address the court and proclaim his innocence. Nobody else is expected to speak on Sandusky's behalf during the sentencing hearing Tuesday in Bellefonte, Amendola said.

The day before his courtroom statement, however, Sandusky released a rare jailhouse recording, in which he questioned his accusers motives and repeatedly proclaimed to be innocent of and baffled by the charges against him.

The three-minute statement aired on Penn State's student-run radio station at 6 p.m. ET.

I'm responding to the worst loss of my life. First I looked at myself. Over and over, I asked why? Why didn't we have a fair opportunity to prepare for trial? Why have so many people suffered as a result of false allegations? What's the purpose? Maybe it will help others. Some vulnerable children who could be abused might not be as a result of all the publicity. That would be nice, but I'm not sure about it. I would cherish the opportunity to become a candle for others as they have been a light for me.

They can take away my life, they can make me out as a monster, they can treat me as a monster, but they can't take away my heart. In my heart, I know I did not do these alleged, disgusting acts. My wife has been my only sex partner and that was after marriage. Our love continues.

A young man who is dramatic and a veteran accuser and always sought attention started everything. He was joined by a well-orchestrated effort of the media, investigators, the system, Penn State, psychologists, civil attorneys and other accusers. They won. I've wondered what they really won. Attention, financial gain, prestige will all be temporary.

Before you blame me, as others have, look at everything and everybody. Look at the preparation for the trial and the trial. Compare it to others. Think about what happened, why and who made it happen. Evaluate the accusers and their families. Realize they didn't come out of isolation. The accusers were products of many more people and experiences than me. Look at their confidants and their honesty. Think about how easy it was for them to turn on me given the information, attention, and potential perks. I never labeled or put down them or their families. I tried and I cared, then asked for the same. Please realize all came to the Second Mile because of issues. Some of those may remain.

We will continue to fight. We didn't lose to proven facts, evidence, accurate locations and times. Anything can be said. We lost to speculation and stories influenced by people who wanted to convict me. We must fight unfairness, inconsistency and dishonesty. People need to be portrayed for who they really are. We've not been complainers, and we couldn't have kids we adopted, and we didn't have time to prepare for trial. We still gave it our beset. We will fight for another chance. We have given many second chances and now will ask for one.

It will take more than our effort. Justice will have to be more than just a word, fairness be more than just a dream. It will take others -- somebody apolitical with the courage to listen, to think about the unfairness, to have the guts to stand up and take the road less traveled. I ask for the strength to handle everything and the willingness to surrender only to God, regardless of the outcome.

This disgusting, perverted vile piece of S@$@#$ will hopefully die and rot in prison. He deserves NOTHING. He has raped, violated, traumatized a COUNTLESS number of innocent victims. He is disgusting and he deserves equal punishment to the crime in prison. Unfortunately, our society is MUCH too civilized to put him into the general population where they would have "taken care of him." He'll unfortunately serve his remaining days jacking off to all of his "memories." He has a one way ticket to HELL - justice will prevail in the END.

Never since I started paying attention to cases such as this more than 50 years ago has an accused's guilt been so blatantly obvious.

Probably the most disturbing (and outrageous) canard of all in Mr. Sandusky's statement is this:

Does this man really think a rational person would believe that so many victims who have come forward - including his adopted son - as well as the not-too-virtuous Mr. Mc Queary have made this <animal byproducts> up out of whole cloth? Does he really believe the memos tossed about among Curley, Schultz and Spanier are figments of our imagination? Dang, that by itself is as lethal a paper trail as ever was.

You can't make this stuff up!

It may be a bit too little and way too late but the best move Jerry can make now is to acknowledge his guilt, make some sort of statement expressing remorse and throw himself whole heartedly at the mercy of the court.

Wouldn't it be Twilight Zone weird and ironic if Sandusky somehow actually WAS innocent...and had been artfully framed for those terrible crimes?

To forfeit his entire way of life on the outside...and be destined to spend the remainder of his life inside...confined in the worst possible place for a convicted pedophile to be...

Imagine that happening to you...and that you were truly innocent, but bore the worst possible stigma that that can be borne by anyone...

And in as dangerously hostile an environment as any could possibly be...

But the only way a group of people could ever muster the kind of implacable hatred required toward someone to convict him of those unspeakable crimes...

Is if they really WERE a a degenerate sexual predator who deserved all of it and more...

And there was sure as hell no rush to judgment in this case...it took freakin' decades to nail the slimy perv.

I foresee many new experiences for Jerry Sandusky...shattering, life- altering experiences similar to the ones he inflicted on so many innocent kids...but hopefully with lots of gratuitous violence and derision thrown in as well...

A good thing that such a dreadful, unbearable fate didn't befall an innocent man in this instance

Sandusky must have come out with this huge spiel because he got word from the debates that spewing a huge load of lies, distortions, half-truths and denying everything from the past actually works. It is sort of hard to counter that in a time-shortened format like a debate with the truth and sort it all out, but this ain't no debate Sandusky.
