Horse shot 58 times with BB gun, on the mend

RANCHO PALOS VERDES A horse that was shot 58 times with a BB gun is now on the road to recovery, after a California community came to her aid, CBS Los Angeles reported.

ASPCA officials discovered the horse, named Calamity Jane, in August. The 10-year-old mare had reportedly been neglected by her owner and was not expected to survive.

But Stacey Cohen, of Rancho Palos Verdes, rescued the animal, determined to help Calamity Jane recover.

"Something about her story just drew me," Cohen said.

Cohen found a local veterinarian who was willing to perform pro bono surgery on the animal, whose pellet wounds have yet to heal. The operation is scheduled for Tuesday.

"So many people have wanted to help her. It took all these people to come together. That's what the miracle was," Cohen said.

People dont understand that bb/pellet guns can cause actual harm and they should not be treated as a real fire arm and not a toy

And it seems to get worse all of the time. Humans have always been nasty and capable of cruelty. But our society is definitely going downhill. Wish I had witnessed and been able to stop them myself.
Because I WOULD have stopped them.

People who abuse animials are disgusting. I wish the same abuse they apply to animials could be applied back to them.

I agree. They should receive the same treatment.

the owner should be found and whipped good. those that shot the horse should be caned publicly. such cruelty should not be tolerated by society on human or beast. if it were my call, those involved would be sent to prison for 25 years minimum. fortunately for them all, it's not my call.
