Massive marijuana field discovered in Chicago

Chicago police have discovered a field of marijuana plants spanning the equivalent of two football fields -- a crop that has an estimated street value of $7 million to $10 million, CBS Chicago reported.

Officials found the field on the city's South Side during a helicopter operation Tuesday.

Cook County Sheriff's Deputy Edward Graney said he was flying in a police helicopter after a training exercise when he spotted "five rows of plants, straight line configuration."

"It didn't look normal for wild growth," he said.

The field, containing more than 1,500 cannabis plants, some as tall as Christmas trees, was set back about 100 yards from the street and was hidden by wild flowers.

Police also found evidence of a camp, and officials said the tarp, sleeping bag, soda bottles and Cheetos wrappers at the site indicated someone may have been guarding the field.

The Department of Streets and Sanitation cut down the plants early Wednesday. The police department's Bomb and Arson Unit was tasked with destroying them.

A city truck driver told CBS Radio station WBBM that he called police after spotting a man running from the area while the helicopter was overhead, but no arrests have been made in connection with the field. Officials are using DNA testing to try to find the person who was watching over the plants.

"Wild" pot would be assuredly male...which means it's no longer pot, and now considered Industrial Hemp, the most industrious, gluten free, vegan, carbon-negative cash crop known to man. In fact, the Russians tried to eradicate Marijuana farmers by growing Industrial Hemp nearby known Marijuana farms to intentionally cross-pollinate, thereby impregnating the female marijuana plant, and rendering her bounty significantly less valuable, if not completely worthless when compared to the fully female varietals.

The more you know...

Why not do some real reporting and report that the war on drugs has failed? If you don't know this, isn't it time come out of your cave?

Let's talk about science. Science has the answer to drugs, not religious quackery. It is time for all governments to adopt the Vienna Declaration.

"It is now clear that drug law enforcement has not achieved its stated objectives. In fact, illicit drugs remain readily available worldwide, and the previous three decades have seen drug prices continue to fall while drug purity continues to increase." -The Vienna Declaration

"The Vienna Declaration is a statement seeking to improve community health and safety by calling for the incorporation of scientific evidence into illicit drug policies." -The Vienna Declaration

Religion does not provide morals for our society, science does. When are people going to get the heck out of the Bronze Age and into the Scientific Age?

So what. When are we going to legalize marijuana? It's time for a much more laid back in the saddle Marlboro Man. May our morons in government finally wake up and do the right thing; some day. Let American Farmers grow the good s--t and take money right out of the blood drenched hands of the cartels. And by the way; end the absolutely ridiculous laws against growing industrial hemp. Hemp is a great food source, makes good rope, and much better source for paper (which is why the Timber Industry hates any talk of legal hemp). It's a dream that some day our bozos in government will join the real world. Some day.

$7 - $10 million dollars, if taxed at a 10% rate that's 700k-1 million extra dollars in the city's coffers. Instead, they'll waste far more money on a wild goose chase and on prisons - how can anyone be in favor of "small government" but support this outlandish jihad against a plant? Where in the Constitution does it says the government can regulate what crops Americans cultivate and possess, and give them the authority to deprive millions of their liberty for failure to comply? Nowhere - cannabis prohibition is unconstitutional as well as nonsensical.

How much money was spent on this bust, helicopter fuel, salaries, just to destroy this crop, I guess it never dawned on these idiots in the federal government that they could have harvested this medicine and sold it to California or other competent states and not only paid for the operation, removed the drugs from their streets, BUT ALSO MAKE A PROFIT TO REDUCE THE NATIONAL DEBT!?!?!?!? TAX THE PLANT!!!! IT'S NOT MANUFACTURED IN A LAB THAT WILL BLOW UP AND KILL CHILDREN, IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE GUARDED BY AHOLES WITH GUNS IF IT'S LEGALLY GROWN! GROWN!!!! NOT PROCESSED, NOT CHEMICALLY ALTERED, GROWN, DRIED AND ENJOYED. Less processing than beer or cigarettes, and the Feds want to waste our tax money on destroying 10 million in generated taxes and profits and welfare for the sick.

Thanks big brother, hell lets even chalk this bust up as a step forward in "global warming" those plants were reducing pollution in chicago not anymore.

You just burned millions of dollars that could ... Who am I kidding no one cares...
