Fla. mother suspected of killing 2 children, self

(AP) CLEARWATER, Fla. - Authorities in Florida say a man found his wife and two young children dead in their home.

Pinellas County Sheriff's officials said in a statement Saturday that the investigation is still ongoing, but it appears that 34-year-old Dawn Brown killed her children and then hanged herself.

Deputies responded to the Clearwater home shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday after receiving a call for help from 36-year-old Murphy Brown, the father of the children.

The children's cause of death will be released pending an autopsy. No further information has been released.

Neighbor Nichole Bell told The Tampa Tribune that she spoke with Dawn Brown at a recent back-to-school open house and couldn't believe the news because Brown appeared to be "interested in her kids' educations."

I totally agree, ttipbc. It's an extremely selfish act to commit suicide and even more selfish to take the lives of sweet innocent children. Can you say, "Hell in a hand basket"?

I know we don't know the complete story yet, but if someone is determined to kill themselves, why the hell do they think they have the right to take their children with them? If you're determined to go, fine - but spare your kids.

Hypothesis:

Deranged person saw the gloom and doom economy and snapped. He decided he was doing his family a favor and spare them the purported agonies to come.

Like the song lyrics read,

"Eenie, meanie, meanie, meanie, minie, minie, mo
The lucky ones are gonna be the first to go"

But that's a level of cynicism that's beyond even my comprehension...

Your turn - it seems simple to moralize the way you had. But surely looking at possible root causes and alleviating those would prevent more of those sad sob moments from happening, yes?
