NEW YORK - About 300 people observing the one-year anniversary of Occupy Wall Street ended a march to a small concrete park in New York's Lower Manhattan that served as headquarters for the protest movement and was its birthplace.

Police patrolled the crowd Saturday and took at least a dozen people into custody near Trinity Church that borders Zuccotti Park. Police confirmed they made arrests but did not have the total number.

Protesters first gathered in Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village and headed south down Broadway, chanting and ending at Zuccotti Park. The group then thinned out.

The march came on the first of three days of planned events. The official anniversary date is Monday. Occupy Wall Street's protest against economic disparity eventually spread to other parts of the country and world.

This movement is not real. It is a propagandist movement funded by the Democratic Party, to make Obama look better.

That's what happens, when you get a dictator, in the WH.

Is it not ironic that many posters on this thread are lambasting the OWS yet on the other pages try to protect the Freedom of Speech of the anti-islamic "film maker". Try to remember that demonstrations are a form of Speech.

Making a movie doesn't cost the taxpayers or block the operation of small businesses.

First I'd like to note that they don't even show a picture of the massive crowd that gathered at Washington Square. They just display a picture of one of the small teach-ins. Second they don't even mention that not only were the arrests unlawful, but they were incredibly violent and targeted towards specific individuals who were doing nothing wrong (aka event organizers). Via live stream (there are dozens of ustream accounts that were present, just do a quick search) I watched several people, who were merely walking on the sidewalk (the entirety of the march stayed on the sidewalk and didn't even participate in any type of civil disobedience) when police came in (that had formerly been on the street, blocking traffic) and started grabbing people and throwing them on the ground, dragging some of them all over the place, without just cause. And when other protesters tried to de-arrest them (because the arrest itself was unlawful), they were also arrested in the process. When in all actuality, these officers should have been in cuffs.

Time to stop buying into the mainstream media lies and propaganda. Time to stop being sheep and take responsibility. Being apathetic and ignorant is no longer an excuse. Your future and the future of your children is at stake.

I also watched this march via live stream and witnessed multiple snatch & grab arrests of people not breaking any law. Here is just one example:

How can the NYPD continue to violate the rights of peaceful protesters like this?

Will mainstream media be there on the 17th to cover the real anniversary? Don't count on it.
