A Colorado University Hospital spokesman said Hugo Jackson Medley was born at 7:11 a.m. and was "doing great" along with his mother.

Caleb Medley is one of 16 victims still hospitalized in the wake of the shooting, which left 12 dead and dozens more wounded.

The couple attended the midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" in what was meant to be their last night out before they needed a babysitter.

Seth Medley says his brother, who is in intensive care and under heavy sedation, is in critical but stable condition and making some improvements in small steps, but added that doctors say he's not anywhere near out of the woods.

Caleb's family has been told his medical bills could total $2 million. But he lacks insurance, so childhood friend Michael West started a website to try to raise money.

So far, the site has raised more than $73,000 for Caleb and his family.

"We've talked about it, because we know he can hear us. He needs to get better, because he needs to be a dad. God. Jesus," West said through tears.

Even under heavy sedation, Caleb has somehow managed to make his friends and family feel just a little better.

"He will close his hands. He will squeeze, and he has given a thumbs-up," says Seth. "He's gonna fight through this so that he can be with his newborn son as much as possible."

"He's a strong guy," Seth says. "I'm not used to seeing him like that. I don't ever want to see him like that again."

why on earth should other people pay for your medical bills???? Its like you expect other people to pay for your problems. Sick of this attitude in america. Take care of your damnn self

I am almost cretin that this man did not get dressed and ready to go to this movies expecting to get SHOT IN THE FACE!

On any other subject where the person is clearly being a lazy ass I would agree with Mr. clearly has no heart chuckt123456. However they did not ask for this problem they did not expect to go see a movie and have it turn into a personal hell. Get a clue and a heart.

You know, what I find to be just incredibly hard to swallow, is how the parents of this baby, born in the richest nation on earth, will now have to rely upon donations and fund raising events to pay their million-plus dollar medical bill....how this child's father was shot in the eye attending a movie, in what was but one of the 50 plus mass-murder shooting events in this country since 1982...and how this new-born baby's Dad might not ever come home again....I think it's a blankety blank, blank, blank reprehensible travesty of all that's right and holy, that so many people have to resort to various fund-raising schemes just to simply pay a hospital or doctor's bill in this country. I know of no other debt in our society besides medical expenses, that causes people to resort to bake sales and car washes and the generosity of friends, family and complete strangers just to pay these staggering bills...what an incredibly noble thing for them to do...clearly the current crop of "leaders" are just not worthy of representing such people as these. There is no other profession that I am aware of whose customers and clients are willing to go to such extremes, and their stories, unfortunately are anything but rare.

Here's some free campaign and/or PR advice or suggestions I'd like to offer Romney or the Koch brothers or that Adelson character out in Vegas....instead of installing another car elevator or giving 10 million bucks to Mitt's campaign or buying Governor's races in the Mid-West, or lobbying against providing health-care to the poor, disabled and elderly.... one of you guys pay this couples hospital expenses...all of it...there are no tens of millions of dollars that could be any better spent. I do not even care what your real motivation would be...just pay it...get the best doctors money can buy, spare no expense....this could be that rarest of opportunities...a shot at redemption. Do not let it pass you by....for the sake of this new-born baby boy who needs his Father.... please.

Yeah, because we all know that jobs in this country are cheaper than a dime a dozen right now, right? And somebody that's worked at grocery stores, Wal-Mart, Target and back to Wal-Mart is so overwhelmingly qualified for all the great paying jobs out there, right?

And before you, in your smug false-superiority, suggest that he should have gone back to school to get more training, please remember that he was supporting his wife and soon-to-be-kid while she was going to vet school. I think it's a good bet that he needed his full Wal-Mart paycheck to do that.

So if your "employer sponsored" group health plan costs you over half your paycheck for your "share", and you can't do that plus have enough to live on, then just quit your job and get another. Oh yeah, that's a great plan!!

Never mind that Wal-Mart pays such low wages to their hourly employees that most of them qualify for government assistance ("food stamps", subsidized housing, etc.) even when working full time.

He was in the same boat so many young adults find themselves in. A low paying job, paying school expenses, not enough paycheck to live on plus pay health insurance premiums, so they figure they're young and healthy and a prohibitively high insurance premium is the first thing struck from the budget.

Then something like this happens. Or he gets hit by a drunk with no car insurance. Or whatever.

Under Romneycare, he'd have had insurance to cover both himself, his wife and his child. As it is, do you really think his friends and family can come up with $2 million?

Guess who pays? You. And me. And every other taxpayer in this country.

But you, you flaming genius, figures he should have just quit his job. And then, of course, you'd be on here whining about how he was an unemployment leach.

I get that "you can't cure stupid" but ignorance like yours makes me physically ill.

Maybe the NRA would care to make a generous donation towards the $2M medical bill racked up by the uninsured man who was shot by the obscenely armed Aurora Colorado theater shooter?

Why should they? The NRA didn't pull the trigger. Hold the villain responsible instead of trying to shift blame.

It is much easier to hold someone other than the perpetrator responsible for his actions. We certainly can not think that we, as a society, bred this monster, or that another one like him may live next door to us right now. Continue to not get to know your neighbor, continue to not socialize with your community, continue not to frequent your community church and continue to put your head in the sand......and continue to wonder where abortions like this piece of garbage come from!!

In America, you are on your own - AND - you live in and contribute to your community and those around you. That's the American way. Ditch the Washington knotheads and the Affordable Care Act, and the family, neighbors and friends should rise to the occassion. And so should all of you, and not depend on some government b-crat and program to deal with your issues.

And besides, if Caleb did not have health care, that was because of a choice he and his family made. And choices have consequences, like it or not.

Was their choice? Or was it the choice of Walmart (his reported employer)? A company so large and successful that each surviving members of the Walton family is individually amoung the top ten wealthiest people in the US. Would they really suffer if they gave their employees health insurance? Even if it was only catastrophic?

I have an idea..

1. Put crazy shooter person in general population instead of isolation.

2. Take the money the state would have spent to put this crazy shooter person through the legal system and pay the victims hospital bills and such.

3. Send crazy shooter person out on next boat to be shark bait...after jail/prison population gets done with him.

Win...Win!!

How stupid is it that this country will spend millions on this nut job bringing him to "justice"!!

The husband work full-time at Walmart. He has no healthcare insurance and is facing 2mill in hospital payments. The repugs in congress has told this man too bad. The nra say others should have been armed and good luck with paying those bills. While liberals at rners Bros. has set up a fund to help those injured. Now can anyone tell me who cares most about this country and their fellow Americans? The ACA is needed now more than ever!

Always have to make something a political argument, typical liberal.

Why don't we make this a human argument. Help the guy out.

Yes, I dam well bet if someone was armed in that theater, the gunman would be dead. And a lot more people would be alive.

Take a clue from Israel.

Why can't Warner Brothers set-up a Fund using procedes from the new Batman movie for familes of victims to pay for funeral and medical expenses? I've read this movie has already made millions. I sent WB an email suggesting this yesterday but have not heard anything back from them, dont think I will either. I'm sure they are worried about law suits. This would be a nice jester for this community as those people where there at the wrong time watching WB"s product. Instead of "lawyering up" do the right thing....could have happended to any of us.

Warner Bros did set a fund. The nra should also set up a fund to help victims of their "arm everyone mentality". But we know that won't happen because they are too busy paying off the repugs in congress.
jimpast60 replies:

Oh, that's the spirit - find someone with some money and let them pay for it. That's the American way, isn't it? No personal responsibility - just soak people who got off their fannies, took risks and did something in life. Why exactly SHOULD Warner Bros. pay? They didn't shoot Caleb? They just made a movie.
