7-year-old Wisconsin girl hit by arrow while walking down street

(CBS/AP) CAMPBELLSPORT, Wis. - Fond du Lac County sheriff's officials say they don't yet know who fired an arrow that struck a 7-year-old girl in the back.

The girl was walking down the street when she was hit by the flying arrow, according to CBS affiliate WDJT in Milwaukee, Wis.

Sheriff Myland "Mick" Fink said Monday the girl was on a sidewalk in Campbellsport when she was hit about 5:30 p.m. Sunday. She was taken to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, then transferred to Children's Hospital in suburban Milwaukee.

Fink says investigators will track the arrow backward as they try to find out who shot it. The sheriff says he doesn't believe there's a threat to public safety because of the incident. He says there are no archery ranges in the area where the girl was hit, and that it's mainly a residential neighborhood.

The girl's identity and condition have not been released.

The arrow should have had some fingerprints on it, why dont they try that avenue. Poor kid, I hope she makes a full recovery. In the end it will likely may have been some accident if they can find where the arrow came from.

I'll bet it's just a kid trying out his bow and arrow.

Most likely. I seriously doubt that if someone wanted to intentionally harm the girl, that they would use a bow and arrow as their first choice of weapon.

Physical violence against children of this sort by anyone other than their parents is also extremely rare.

Are you sure it wasn't Mr. Ted "I hunt with bows and arrows" Nugent?

On the premeditated criminal that did it, lets look at the facts-
We are looking for someone that:

-Despite knowing what could have happened, they decided to shoot an arrow into the sky anyway.
-Is immune to common sense.
-Doesn't care how their actions effect others.
-Feels as if the rules don't apply to them.
-Is used to doing things that are illegal and getting away with it.
-Has a disregard for the safety and welfare of others around them.

Perhaps the police should concentrate on just the American CEO's living within bow and arrow range of the victim?

Uh... not necessarily. I've shot arrows before and had them ricochet off rocks and nearly hit me before, so I wouldn't be too sure that this was intentional.

A lot of schools in our area have archery teams. Unfortunately, there are a lot of idiot parents out there that don't teach their children that you can kill someone with a competition arrow. I had neighbor kids running around shooting at each other and one of the arrows came in to our yard and pierced our brand new pool cover. My son was outside at the time and I was very lucky it didn't hit him or one of my dogs. We went over to the stupid parent and she was on her cell phone yacking, oblivious to what her kids were doing. Her husband is a police officer. I guess we're lucky they weren't outside playing with his service revolver.

Or the kids hear the story but then act like little vermin-like bullies, shooting at people for fun...

Whoever did that is one sick person. It is not just the pain of the injury that will haunt this child. I just cannot imaging how awful she is going to feel every other time she goes out for a walk. Get well soon little girl. Hope the police will take this horrible idiot off the streets.
