(AP) SAN ANTONIO - A 12-year-old Texas boy who was suspended from school after shaving his head to resemble the face of Spurs forward Matt Bonner scored tickets to a playoff game and props from his favorite NBA player.

Patrick Gonzalez was suspended for a day from Woodlake Hills Middle School because the school district deemed his $75 haircut a distraction. He returned to class Thursday after reluctantly shaving his head.

Gonzalez says Bonner is his favorite player, noting they're both redheads.

Bonner, whose mother is a teacher, says the school could have just moved Gonzalez to the back of the room. Bonner encouraged Gonzalez to "keep supporting us redheads in the NBA."

Gonzalez's story prompted the Spurs to give him and his family tickets to Thursday's playoff game — against the Clippers.

Over a hair cut. When I was a high school student I had to wear a short hair cut as the foster mother demanded it years ago. It is buzzed and I am female..
The boy was barred one day and told to shave his head..That is worse..The girls can do as they please in dressing their person..

Quite funny that some are advocating fighting this in court. Big deal, a 1 day suspension. It's a day off of school for the kid. May be silly that they suspended him, but have some perspective. It's 1 damn day. Very cool that the Spurs gave him tickets.

When our workplace announced there would be disciplinary 1-day "suspensions," everybody wanted a list of what the infractions might be (ha!). Adult perpective.

We see bigger "distractions" than this walking to school every day; sort of like going to church - some days, you hope they just show up and get along.

this kind of pathetic decision isn't a court room fight. It's ridiculing and making fun of the morons at schools that force this kind of issue. I say put names and faces on the web so everyone can see what kind of fool they are.

If he were my son, I'd ground him for a month. However, I'd invest every penny I had in the genius that did the hair cut! There's a future waiting to be discovered.

Rules are rules...the mother should have known this haircut would be a problem since she is a teacher. Then the NBA awards bad behavior by giving him tickets...And they wonder why America is dying.

The rule is, if your haircut distracts people you get suspended??? What a pathetic rule. Typical conservative intolerance. It's a haircut.
