(CBS News) Two federal agents were shot Thursday morning in Petaluma, Calif., just north of San Francisco, while serving warrants for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security sources told CBS News.

The agents were transported to a hospital, where they are being treated for non-life-threatening wounds. A third agent also received minor injuries in the incident.

ICE released a statement saying a suspect was in custody. The agents were executing "high risk federal warrants" for an ongoing criminal investigation, according to the agency.

The general manager of a Best Western hotel near the incident told CBS Radio station KCBS-AM on air that a loud bang and gunshots were heard around 4 a.m. PT. At least 10 shots rang out, a neighbor told the station.

In a separate incident in southern California, an ICE agent was found dead of a single gunshot wound, and his 14-year-old son was arrested in the shooting, according to a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which is investigating the incident.

The lesson learned should be, serving "high risk federal warrants" at 4 am to someone with a gun, expect them to shoot at you...

This is the result of federal policy which is let them all come in and separate out the ones that commit crimes ( if they can catch them) stupid short sighted policy that can't possible work like the war on drugs. Republican and Democrats are equally to blame, as evidenced by the American Chamber of Commerce fighting every attempt at enforcement of any new laws concerning ids or enforcemnt.

A speedy recovery to the agents who were injured.

You were shot because President Obama refuses to enforce immigration laws.

He is even suing the state of Arizona for their attempts to stop illegal immigration.

Does this sound like a President who has the best interests of the American people at heart.??

Did you even read the article? The agents involved were attempting to enforce immigration law. If what you allege were true, the agents would not have been there, would they? Idiot.

Whether this was a legal or illegal operation
of ICE; we, the public, cannot say, but with
all the illegal operations govt law enforcement
has been involved in, in recent years, it
would be rash to believe it was legitimate!
Maybe...in the future...we'll have enough information
to be able to make a determination, one way or the other!

It would be irrational to place any credibility on your statement. My faith is on ICE in this case.
