NJ mom arrested over 6-year-old's alleged tanning visit
(CBS News) A Nutley, New Jersey, mother was arrested after taking her 6-year-old daughter to a tanning salon and allegedly causing a slight burn by allowing the child to use one of the tanning beds.
However, Patricia Krentcil, 44, tells WCBS in New York that the whole thing was a big misunderstanding.
Krentcil, 44, admits to a love for tanning, but insists she would never tan her daughter's fair skin artificially.
"I've been tanning my whole life, going to the beach, tanning salons and so forth," she says.
WCBS reports: "Krentcil said when the school nurse asked her daughter how she got burned, she simply said, 'I go tanning with mommy.' However, the woman said her daughter's burn was not from getting into a tanning bed, but from being outside and playing in the backyard."
Krentcil has been charged with second degree child endangerment, according to ABC News.

- Most tanning places will not let children around the tanning beds. If you cant find someone to look after your child while tanning you need to skip tanning that day.

- Looks like Mom needs to stay away from tanning herself. It's one thing to tan for a little color, but she looks like an over baked cake. She should be ashamed of herself. The leather look is no longer in style. She had ruined her skin for sure. Shame on the tanning salon as well for taking her business and aiding to her addiction.

- I think all tanning salons should be considered a public hazzard and closed permanently.. This woman has a mental problem and sad to say it is evident that her child loves her mommy. Doesn't she know that she is shortening her life and if she loves her child she should stop going to tanning salons? I don't know what salons she goes to but if I had a tanning salon, I would refuse to do business with her. As a nurse, I have seen to many people with skin cancer and some of the extreme surgery's that have to be performed are terrible. I have seen people with their ears almost removed, their nose, parts of their arms, legs have to have skin grafts. etc. I don't understand the need to change the color of your skin. Wear the suit that God gave you and love yourself enough to be yourself not someone else.

- I appreciate your comments. Good insight. I think tanning salons are helpful for people with severe psoriasis, that's one good purpose for them. But mostly I think tanning is a way to lay around doing nothing and I've never had the patience for it: I think about all the other things I should do or could be doing!!

- And you know, we have ALL heard the dangers and risks of laying in a tanning bed so I'm perplexed as to why tanning is up about 30% from ten years ago...people are stupid

- Something's not right in that picture. Look at this one: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57426303/bronzed-nj-mom-6-year-olds-burns-not-from-salon/ THAT looks like a tanning salon (and now we can start discussing what's wrong with her mouth!).
