(CBS News) - The U.S. Census Bureau released data on Wednesday from 2010, that showed a 28 percent increase in interracial or interethnic marriage over the last decade -- from 7 percent of couples in 2000 to 10 percent in 2010.

The figures were based on traditional married couples, not those of the same sex.

The report uses the term "interethnic" because the Census considers Hispanic an ethnicity, not a race.

The study found 1 in 10 Americans had partners of a different ethnicity other than their own. The states where this seemed to be the most common were Hawaii, Alaska, out west and particularly in the southwest.

The data also found a higher percentage of mixed couples were unmarried.

Eighteen percent of unmarried couples were mixed, while that number was even higher, at 21 percent, for unmarried, same-sex partners.

The numbers point to a dramatic increase in non-traditional households over the last decade.

Today, only 66 percent of all American households have two or more people living together related either by birth, marriage or through adoption. Less than half Americans, 48 percent, now live together as husband and wife.

More people are also living alone, especially in cities like Atlanta and Washington, where 44 percent of homes have just one person.

The are 3 things to note about this story.

1. The actual report is that "interracial and inter-ethnic marriages" rose 28%, but the photo is of a black-white couple. Black-white couples comprise about 10% of all interracial and inter-ethnic couples but to the news media (still mentally in the 1960s) interracial means black-white.

2. The fact that the American psuedo-Left thinks this story is import indicates that they still cling to a 1950s view of race-relations where black-white marriage is the final solution. This is both racist and delusional.

3. The stats are not real. The Current Population Survey (CPS) is notorious for inaccuracy when it comes to small minorities like black-white couples. The decennial Census always produces different and more reliable numbers. The Current population survey, by contrast produces numbers with wide variation from year to year. Some CPS have recorded sharp declines in the number of black-white married couples.

SUMMARY
It is all but certain that Anglo-Hispanic, and Anglo-Asian marriages are on the rise because the number of Asians and Hispanics has risen sharply. What this means is that the picture of "interracial and inter-ethnic marriage" is better portrayed by reruns of "I Love Lucy", "Leave it to Beaver" and the "Donna Reed Show" than it is by "The Jerry Springer Show".

Does the study also reveal how many of these marriages never last, especially those involving kids?
