NYPD monitored Muslim students in Northeast

NEW YORK - The Associated Press has learned that the New York Police Department monitored Muslim college students far more broadly than previously known, at schools far beyond city limits, including Yale and the University of Pennsylvania.

Police talked with local authorities about professors 300 miles away in Buffalo. The department even sent an undercover agent on a whitewater rafting trip, where he recorded students' names and noted in police intelligence files how many times they prayed.

Detectives trawled Muslim student websites every day and, although professors and students hadn't been accused of wrongdoing, their names were recorded in reports prepared for Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

Asked about the monitoring, police spokesman Paul Browne provided a list of 12 people arrested or convicted on terrorism charges in the United States and abroad who had once been members of Muslim student associations.

Best proof, How come NYPD (Not even NY state police, NYPD is city police) can do monitoring in other states in Northeast? Only Federal agencies have jurisdiction to do monitoring across state lines. NYPD just lying and Ray Kelly is lying hard to be our next Mayor.

After 9/11 when a student get a visa from a US embassy they go through a background check. A slight bad mark will lead to rejection of the visa. These students in US already went through these checks and NYPD don't have to do this. They are just lying.

That this alleged monitoring has been leaked to the media so comprehensively does no credit to NYPD,which obviously has to do a great deal of house cleaning.The police department seems to be going through a tough period in recent days.

At the same time, the Constitution must be protected from people who do not believe in it. An assualt on our way of life is also an assualt on our Constitution and eveything it represents. Yes our Constitution refers to freedoms but it also refers to forming an army to protedct our people and our borders. Just because people come to America doesn't mean they are willing to abide by our laws and assimilate into our culture.
