Pastor's daughter accidentally shot at church

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Authorities say the daughter of a pastor was accidentally shot in the head at a church in St. Petersburg.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office was called to the Grace Connection Church Sunday at about 12:24 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators say Moises Zambrana was showing his gun in a small closet to another church member - the victim's boyfriend, according to CBS affiliate WTSP - who was interested in buying a firearm. Zambrana reportedly took out the magazine of the Reuger 9mm weapon but did not know there was a bullet in the chamber. (Watch WTSP's report below.)

The gun went off and fired through a wall, striking 20-year-old Hannah Kelley. She was transported to Bayfront Medical Center to undergo surgery and remained in critical condition late Sunday.

"There is a big level of concern 'cause she may or may not survive. But we're all praying for her and, right now, I guess that's the best we can do," church member Tony Diehl told WTSP.

Deputies said Zambrana has a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

No charges have been filed.

If their prayers had ever been heard they'd have had sense enough not to fool around with guns, but then again maybe this is proof that there is no God. Why would a loving God allow "'his' sheep" to walk around with guns? We need to have gun laws like those in England.

No charges filed? At the very least, this man should have his license to carry a firearm of any type revoked for life. There are so many things wrong with this. First of all, why bring a gun to church??? Secondly, NEVER "assume" that a gun is unloaded -- ALWAYS treat it as though it is loaded and keep it aimed away from people. Lastly, even if you're 100% sure that a gun is unloaded, you NEVER pull the trigger because you will damage the firing pin. These are some of the basics that any gun owner or user should understand and practice 100% of the time.

I agree with everything you said except the church thing. If a person is going to church and then going to the rifle range after church he would normally have a weapon with him. Leaving it in the vehicle would be an option if you unloaded it and locked the car up. I probably wouldn't take it into the church simply because of the political incorrectness of it not because there's anything legally or morally wrong with it.

How about not bringing a gun into church because someone could get hurt with it by accident and as we can all see, accidents can and do happen? Just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you should. I'm for legal gun ownership but it seems to get carried too far.
