Chauffeur, doorman left $1.5M from grateful exec

A chauffeur and a doorman on Manhattan's Upper East Side could well have toasted their late employer with Dom Perignon thanks to the generous inheritance he left for them.

Former music label chief Alan Meltzer left the two workers a combined total of $1.5 million when he died last Halloween, the New York Post reported Monday.

"I don't know what to do exactly with the money, but one thing I know for sure -- every year, I'm going to bring the guy some flowers at his grave," chauffeur Jean Laborde, who inherited $1 million from Meltzer's $10 million estate, told the Post.

Laborde and Meltzer's doorman, Chamil Demiraj, helped the former Wind-Up Records head cope with the divorce of his wife of 13 years, the Post reported. Both portrayed Meltzer as a nice guy they were sorry to see pass.

Meltzer's ex-wife Diana told the tabloid she "could care less" about missing out on the one-third of the estate she would have received if they hadn't divorced.

"If he wants to give it to the bums, he can give it to the bums," she told the Post.

Chauffeur and doorman are now part of the evil 1%. I say tax it all and give it to all who haven't earned it.

That's a little snapshot of the problem our whole country has with the Rich having all the wealth isn't it? Good for them and good for the man who passed away. Don't let it go to your head guys.

With great wealth and power comes responsibility to your fellow man. Blue collar people often get it and the Rich don't. It's our consciousness and humanity that makes us great, not our money.

Like Bill and Ted said: "Be excellent to each other".

At least these were working people so they have some human value. Wonder why that Meltzer guy would have been sorry for divorcing that feminine waste?

Wow, after reading this... I was curious about what this man looked like so I wound up reading an article about this same situation on inquisitr website and there is a little more to what his ex wife said about her opinion on the matter and she seems even WORSE on the other article I read -
"He can leave it to whoever he wants to. I'm doing fine. I could care less. If he wants to give it to the bums, he can give it to the bums. He could f*** a nun. I couldn't give a s***.
He can give his money to whoever he wants. We're divorced. The man is dead."
I don't normally like to wish ill of someone, but hopefully one day it would be nice if she was in a situation where someone sued her for every dime she has so maybe she'll have an idea of what it's like to not have anything. Just my opinion.

Although I can't agree with the negativeness of it, if you imagine that there are A LOT of wealthy, selfish people out there that for generations have been living like that it's easier to understand how so much wealth can be such a bad thing when it's concentrated in the hands of so few that are truly selfish and abusive.

So few, positive things gets done for our country's and our peoples best interests that I think this kind of behavior needs to be short circuited periodically. I think it might have been better to let Wall Street collapse and all these Rich people lose their money. That way they would have learned a lesson. The way it worked out, I don't think they learned anything.
