Bells ring marking year since Tucson attack

TUCSON, Ariz. — Bells rang out across Tucson to mark exactly one year since a deadly shooting shook the community, killing six and wounding 13, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

Many throughout the close-knit southern Arizona community began the day of remembrance Sunday by ringing bells at 10:11 a.m., the exact time the shooting broke out on Jan. 8, 2011.

About 30 people gathered at the scene of the attack, a Safeway grocery store. They hugged each other and cried as the time of the shooting came.

Six people were killed, including a 9-year-old girl born on Sept. 11, 2001, and a federal judge.

The congresswoman has spent the last year in Houston undergoing grueling physical and speech therapy.

She plans to make a rare public appearance at an evening candlelight vigil at the University of Arizona in honor of the victims and survivors.

Did this anniversary get any mention by any of the candidates in the recent debates. The topic seems pertinent to limits and respect for the other side.

Some pretty bad stuff happened that day. Glad Gifford made it wish the six dead, especially the nine year old kid could celebrate too. Hope they execute that guy, the sooner the better.
