TUCSON, Ariz. Bells rang out across Tucson to mark exactly one year since a deadly shooting shook the community, killing six and wounding 13, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
Many throughout the close-knit southern Arizona community began the day of remembrance Sunday by ringing bells at 10:11 a.m., the exact time the shooting broke out on Jan. 8, 2011.
About 30 people gathered at the scene of the attack, a Safeway grocery store. They hugged each other and cried as the time of the shooting came.
Six people were killed, including a 9-year-old girl born on Sept. 11, 2001, and a federal judge.
The congresswoman has spent the last year in Houston undergoing grueling physical and speech therapy.
She plans to make a rare public appearance at an evening candlelight vigil at the University of Arizona in honor of the victims and survivors.
