Texas' top court suspends beating video judge

Judge William Adams

Judge William Adams / Aransas County Court

McALLEN, Texas - The Texas Supreme Court has suspended a judge whose beating of his then-teenage daughter in 2004 was viewed millions of times on the Internet.

According to an order signed Tuesday by the clerk of the state's highest court, Aransas County court-at-law Judge William Adams is suspended immediately with pay pending the outcome of the inquiry started by the State Commission on Judicial Conduct earlier this month.

The order makes clear that while Adams agreed to the commission's recommended temporary suspension and waived the hearing and notice requirements, he does not admit "guilt, fault or wrongdoing" regarding the allegations. His attorney did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Adams' now 23-year-old daughter Hillary Adams uploaded the 2004 video of her father beating her repeatedly with a belt.

This man needs to disown his daughter. No one should claim kids that treat their parents with disrespect, refuse to obey the rules of their house, and try to destroy them, in the eyes of the public.

There's nothing worse, than a rotten kid.

And nothing worse than a father who beats his kid without mercy, with a leather belt, while she cries for help, and all the while hurling the f-bomb at her. Prison guards aren't allowed to treat prisoners that way. Doesn't matter how bad the kid's behavior, there is no excuse for the adult's actions.

This man needs a shrink. He doesn't know he is wrong to hit his daughter. If he cant do what he did on tape to a stranger, he can't do it to family. By definition.....child abuse.
It's no wonder the State Commission on Judicial Conduct is at least making an effort to consider it.

I'm glad to hear that, at least this time, the courts aren't just protecting their own. Although it will be interesting to see the results of the "inquiry."

The idea of this out-of-control, angry person presiding over family court just sickens me.

Someday, I hope children are treated like animals. Only then will the SPCA and other animal welfare groups be able to step in and protect them from abusers like this. Until then, it's anything goes as long as you're a white enough, republican enough, male enough and strong enough person to get away with doing this to another person. After all, once they can kick your butt, it's assault.
