Rep. Giffords clear-spoken in 1st TV interview

PHOENIX - Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is able to speak with a clear voice in her first TV interview since she was shot 10 months ago.

The 41-year-old congresswoman was seated with her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, as she spoke with ABC's Diane Sawyer for an interview that will air Monday. A preview was broadcast Thursday on "World News."

Giffords was wearing a yellow top with gold buttons and dark eyeglasses. Her brown hair has grown out since it was shaved after the shooting.

When Sawyer asked how she felt, Giffords said, "Pretty good." She also said her recovery was "difficult."

Giffords is recovering from a brain injury she suffered Jan. 8 when a gunman opened fire outside a Tucson, Ariz., supermarket. Six people were killed and 13 were wounded, including Giffords.

Wow! Two comments already and they're both idiotic. The CBS comments section is off to its usual good start! American_artist, I would LOOOOVE for you to share even the slightest tiniest shred of evidence that the shooter was at all influenced by Sarah Palin. I don't recall in the 1980s that people blamed the Left for the Reagan shooting. And they shouldn't have.
John Hinckley seemed every bit as crazy as Jared Loughner. You don't blame someone for something unless you have evidence. Unless you're stupid, of course, in which case you'll do whatever your addled brain tells you to do.

Have to agree. Negative comments illustrate how little a clue they have of how amazing the recovery of Rep Giffords has been. This should be the real story - one of bravery, persistence and just plain fortitude.
