Obama previews State of the Union address

President Obama will deliver his third State of the Union address to Congress on Tuesday and then hits the road. CBS News correspondent Bill Plante is at the White House offers a preview of what the president's plans are in the speech.

President Obama is still working on Tuesday's State of the Union address, but it will sound a lot like speeches he been making, particularly one he made last month in Kansas: a call for economic fair play, which his opponents saw as a call to class warfare.

This is how Mr. Obama previewed the speech in a webcast: "And that's rebuilding an economy where hard work pays off and responsibility is rewarded -- and an America where everybody gets a fair shot, everyone does their fair share, and everybody plays by the same set of rules."

There are likely to be some new proposals in the speech to aid the housing crisis, spur made-in-the-U.S.A. manufacturing, and help more people go to college. The president will continue to insist that wealthier Americans pay a larger share of taxes.

This year, the annual speech to Congress is likely to be seen as the keynote of President Obama's campaign, though the White House continues to insist that focused on his job, not on the campaign.

But the president's campaign organization is hard at work. They've raised $157 million and he is taking his non-campaign on the road for two days following the speech, hitting five of the key states he needs to win in November.

it will just be obama's typical rhetoric, flowery rhetoric, without any real substance. obama is a master of rhetoric and an excellent pied piper who can lead masses to nowhere but the masses believe they are headed somewhere. obama is masterful.

But we don't all play by the same rules. The rules differ by the talents and opportunities we have been given, and the country is far stronger as a result.

America is not limited by the least common denominator.

I cannot veto legislation passed by Congress (are the rules different for some reason), I doubt I am going to be elected president (any write-in's folks?), and I rather suspect that Mr. Obama is not qualified to be a medical doctor or a machinist.

Note that I am not claiming I am or should be immune to American law.

Obama "is taking his non-campaign on the road for two days following the speech, hitting five of the key states he needs to win in November."

Probably with some juicy fund-raisers thrown in for good measure.

It's not just Obama, it's Bush, Clinton, etc. Just schedule some sort of public event to get transportation via Air Force One, Secret Service protections, etc., etc.

No matter how large or small or miniscule, the U.S. Taxpayer pays the freight.

And then the lucky President schedules fund raisers.

Like I said, it's not just Obama. All of the Presidents routinely travel to fund-raisers at the U.S. Taxpayers expense.

Obama doesn't believe in any of this, he is just out trying to buy votes. Read the CBS article on SOLYNDRA and you will see what cronyism really is. I don't care what Obama says because he is irrelevant at this point. Time fro him to slink back to Chicago with Rahm, Rev. Wright, Van Jones and Saul Alinsky ,..all his buddies.

David Stockman has written a new book, "Crony Capitalism." It is about how corporations and lobbyists are corrupting capitalism by their influence on Congress. Ordinary people don't stand a chance unless all of us demand change of the Constitution. Check out an interview on http://billmoyers.com/

Republicans created this mess in America and kept it this way because people put Republicans back in 2010, if you put Republicans in 2012 KISS your America goodbye.
Soup lines everyplace that will be out of soup, Wake up America and put your predigest behind you, it will do you no good if you bite your nose off to spite your face. You lose big time with Republicans. I will say this, before the tea party we did have some Republicans that cared, no more and you will have no one to blame but yourselves or yourselves if you vote them in. ANYONE who thinks Obama caused our great recession is SO wrong and NO President was going to get America out of it in 4 years, we would be better off today had the people not put Republicans back in 2010, so put the blame on the people that took your Country way and that was Bush and the Republicans in office today, NOT Obama, the things he has done have been trying to help the people unlike Republican who only want to help the wealthy and take your Medicare and SS away to give more to the rich.

Republicans ruin the country, say it is for your own good and people vote for them...unbelievable.

I would like to see the Republicans raise taxes for the Rich through tax reform and eliminating loopholes. It won't solve our spending problem or boost the economy. The only way to do that is to vote Obama out.

"I would like to see the Republicans raise taxes for the Rich"

You obviously have NO IDEA what the Republican party is all about.

loophole-

a means of escape or evasion; a means or opportunity of evading a rule, law, etc.: There are a number of loopholes in the tax laws whereby corporations can save money.

If we are closing loopholes, then we are tightening the net. If this is what people are for, then we should do this. Let's get our terms straight, get agreement on the remedy and take action.
