First lady responds to claims of White House friction

A new book out Tuesday, "The Obamas," looks at the role first lady Michelle Obama has played since moving into the White House. "CBS This Morning" co-anchor Gayle King was there Tuesday and asked Mrs. Obama about claims the book makes about friction between her and the president's top advisers, including the president's first chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel.

Obama: I do care deeply about my husband. I am his biggest ally

King: Biggest confidante?

Obama: I am one of his biggest confidantes, but he has dozens of really smart people who surround him. And I am not an expert on most of the issues that he's dealing with on a daily basis. So I want him-- and he wants to be talking to the people with the best information. That's not to say that we don't have discussions and conversations. That's not to say that my husband doesn't know how I feel. I mean, one thing is true that I talk very candidly to my husband about how I feel, but that's the kind of relationship we have. I wouldn't go to Rahm about something that I would talk to my husband about, right? If I didn't agree with something, I would talk to my own husband about it.

Criticizing any First Lady has been around for a very long time. Those finding extreme offense to Mrs. Obama being criticized and inferring it is racially motivated are just plain misinformed and obviously haven't been paying attention to anything that didn't involve non-blacks, especially in politics and especially on the presidential level. The media is quick to defend any criticism of the Obamas, totally unlike the same being lobbed at other presidents and their wives, and especially if they weren't Democrats.

There are some very low class people responding. I'm ashamed of them and they should be ashamed of themselves.

Mrs Obama has been and is a good role model. Can all of the responders above say the same about themselves?

She represents our country well... how do you think that readers from around the world view the comments and the people behind them?

It's time for naughty children to grom up, become patriots, support our government and all of our elected officials, our troops, and the people that look out for the rest of us.

Support our first lady... she is successful in her own right mother, lawyer, citizen, and wife of our president.

I agree, she has visited many of the most beautiful vacation spots around the world, like the asian country of Hawaii, on our dime promoting how the 99%ers should send her on another four year paid vacation. We do need to admire her for being the only masculine member of the first family and how she supported her husband durring the loss of his lover, Donald Young. These are very loving people, Michelle loves one of her Secret Service agents and Barry loves many at Man's Country.

She should have just ignored the allegations in the book. In this interview she looks under duress and her facial expressions make her seem crazy. She does herself no favors here. Also, Gayle King is not a top notch journalist. The Democrats had a chance to really do something big in 2008 but instead they ran an inexperienced, borderline incompetent candidate and now we are all paying the price. I say this as a Democrat.

What First Lady hasn't had disagreements with WH personnel? Who cares anyway. I want the First Lady to have strong opinions and she should talk to the President, but like she said, he has very wise people that surround him to help guide his decisions, so she can help when needed and step back when not.
