Michael Phelps: Ready for London games?

Anderson Cooper: I love the idea that you're, that you're trying to just keep him in the chambers...

Bob Bowman: Sometimes I'd like to lock him in there, right? Most of the time.

Michael Phelps: It's something that is helping. I am 26 and, and I don't recover as fast as I have in the past.

How much is left in Michael's tank for London? That will be THE question of the Olympics.

Anderson Cooper: Can he win multiple gold medals in London?

Bob Bowman: Oh yeah.

Anderson Cooper: He can?

Bob Bowman: Oh for sure.

Anderson Cooper: How many?

Bob Bowman: I don't know. That's up to him.

Michael Phelps: I kind of feel like my old self again. I'm swimming times like I used to. I'm swimming races how I used to. So, everything is coming back to me, what it was, I guess, before '08.

Every race in London will be compared to what he accomplished over nine days in the summer of 2008.

[Announcer: Michael finishes first...]

Anderson Cooper: Have you been able to, do you think, finally and fully absorb what you did in Beijing?

Michael Phelps: Probably not.

Anderson Cooper: Even now?

[Announcer: He's magical, he's Superman...]

Michael Phelps: No. I guess I probably do get, kind of, like, choked up, like, just thinking about all the memories and thinking of exactly when I touched the wall, what was, what was going on in my head.

[Announcer: Michael Phelps!]

Michael Phelps: But probably deep down inside I probably really don't know and won't feel what it really meant until who knows.

Phelps is not one to dwell on past achievements. When we asked him to bring out all 16 of his Olympic medals from Athens and Beijing, we were in for a couple of surprises.

Anderson Cooper: So these are all the ones from Athens?

Michael Phelps: Uh, minus one, yeah.

Anderson Cooper: Wait a minute so you're not sure where your other gold medal is?

Michael Phelps: Um, there are a couple of options of where it could be but I think when we were traveling uh somebody was holding on to it so...I actually like never bring these out.

Anderson Cooper: So you never just like sit around the apartment with all your medals on?

Michael Phelps: No. That's not one of my normal activities. But then I have eight more. These are, it's kind of...

I am a pediatrician. What nobody seems to say is that he had no adolescence. He only trained all during his youth. Those who lose their adolescence have to go through it sometime. I have had several Olympic caliber children in my practice and they and their parents do nothing but that every day. I think he needed the break. Stop criticizing him and understand.

I have great sympathy for him as it sounds like he faces nothing but constant external pressure - do it for the nation's honor! do it so your mom gets to go to Rio! do it so you can be a better role model! - and has lost his own drive and desire. If he wants to relax, he's earned it. At 27 you should get to decide for yourself. Even if it's a waste of talent in some people's eyes. It's his life, nobody else's.

With young kids who swim and much activity in our home surrounding swim practices and meets, we looked forward to this segment on Phelps. However, we came away greatly disappointed. What a spoiled, lazy, waste of talent, self-centered, pot-smoking fake superstar. He is anything but a role-model. He could do so much for himself, others and the sport of swimming. Instead, he basically wastes away until just before the olympics. He was more excited to tell the world about how he could sleep in all day, play video games or just go to vegas on a whim. What a role model....what a waste of talent. What a spoiled baby with such a "tough" difficult life. How many kids would kill to have even a drop fo his talent. Yet he takes it all for granted, even keeping his gold medals in a small pouch like they are worthless. I personally hope he gets smoked at the olympics and other american swimmers pass him by. Then he can return to his video games and pot, and his arrogant mother can take her trip to Rio alone. What a waste.

Have you ever heard of burn out? Michael Phelps has every right to take time off and relax. And often times, long periods of rest help athletes to come back stronger. And speaking of role models, you're not exactly being a positive one to your kids by being so judgmental o Phelps.

Yeah, obviously he is lazy, because that's how you win 14 Olympic gold medals. And I love the arrogance of judging him because he doesn't keep the medals HE won in a place YOU consider sufficient. When YOU win an Olympic medal then you can show him what he should do - how about that?

Mr Cooper. Do you realize what he just told you re his sleeping arrangments? He is Doping. When someone sleeps in a chamber to take them up to 9000+ feet, they will have a SIGNIFICANT increase in their hemoglobin. That is just like taking EPO shots!! ( Erythropoietin). and taking THEM is illegal. He is doing the same thing. No wonder he won all those medals. He CHEATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I charge you to look into it. Your wrong. sleeping in a chamber is the same thing as traveling to 9000 feet and living there. By your logic anyone who lives above the altitude that the olympics are at is cheating.
