60 Minutes/Vanity Fair Poll: February Edition

• Which are you most likely to give money to?

Americans are most likely to donate money to their churches (31 percent), followed by relief organizations (20 percent), schools (13 percent), arts institutions (five percent) and public radio (four percent). The good news is that almost all Americans are givers, and wherever and whenever tragedy or devastation strikes in the world, Americans will be there. That's one of our very best traits.

Penn State is a great school. There is no logical or intelligent reason to discourage anyone from attending Penn State. I have a son who will be graduating from Penn State in May. His educational experience at Penn State has been great. I also have a daughter who chose Brown over Penn State (they were her 1st and 2nd choices) for undergrad studies, but she will be applying to grad school at PSU because it is one of the best research facilities in the world. Earlier this month, PSU researchers found a new and complete cure for leukemia in mice, in their efforts to cure human leukemia. With regard to social causes, PSU students raised 10.6 million dollars last week for pediatric cancer, which is in addition to the millions that they raised this year for the Special Olympics and other worthy charities.

Penn State is in the top ten public universities in the country. I would be proud to have any of my children attend this great school, although admission is not an easy task. As a matter of fact, the number of applications to PSU exceeds that of previous years and standards for admission are comparable to many ivy league colleges.

In my humble opinion, this question shows poor judgement and complete ignorance.

I have to chuckle. What an absolutely ridiculous poll. Anyone answering yes clearly has NO idea about the Sandusky case OR all of the great things about Penn State. The Sandusky scandal involved young children--NOT college students. It is vile, it is terrible, but has so little to do with Penn State as an educational institution, it's not funny. I'm sure people aren't aware that MOST of the counts against Mr. Sandusky are alleged to have happened elsewhere. But that's just not 'fun' to report. If you're truly asking a question about college student safety, why not ask this poll about Virginia Tech? I would send my children to both schools--because these incidents do not define either institution. Absolutely ridiculous.

What a ridiculous poll. Penn State is an absolutely wonderful institution of higher learning. Research being done at Penn State is changing lives on a daily basis. Penn State students, just last week, raised nearly $11,000,000 to benefit children with cancer and chilhood cancer research. NO ONE at Penn State was ever sexually abused by Jerry Sandusky. Jerry Sandusky USED Penn State just like he USED The Second Mile to carry out horrific crimes against children. This is an insulting poll!
