Ruth Madoff describes hearing Bernard confess

In her first public description of the day she learned from her husband Bernard that he was running the biggest Ponzi scheme in history, Ruth Madoff says she was "paralyzed" with shock. Yet the couple still attended their company Christmas party the night before Madoff's arrest. Ruth appears in her first interview discussing her husband's crimes on "60 Minutes" Sunday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. ET/PT. Her son, Andrew, also speaks to Morley Safer in his first interview on the same broadcast.

The following is an excerpt from the script of "Madoffs" which will air on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. ET/PT

Ruth Madoff: I was kind of paralyzed. Bernie got up and said, 'I'm going back to the office.' And--

Safer: Was he emotional in any way?

Madoff: I don't remember that either, he must have been.

Safer: Apologetic in any way?

Madoff: Probably, yes. I sort of a blank now, I'm not-- hedging here, I don't-- I just simply don't remember every detail. I was in such a state.

Safer: But-- later that day, that evening, you both turned up at the office Christmas party.

Madoff: I know, he phoned me from the office and said, 'We have to go to the office Christmas party.' So I got myself together and went over there. We stayed a half an hour. And we just went home. And the next morning, the FBI was there to arrest him about 7:00 a.m.

I am very disappointed that 60 minutes broadcast a segment on the Madoff's....it's self-serving and does nothing to elevate society.

I did not watch. No interest. But I must say who gives a rat's ax what they say. They are certainly lying and only in it for the money. There is no doubt that they bled Bernie as he bled his clients. They are a family of bloodsuckers. The fact that 60-Minutes gave them air time means that 60-Minutes is never worth watching again.

After 40 years I won't be watching or recording 60 Minutes!
I don't care to hear anything concerning those bastards the Madoff family!
Especially his wife...

How about profiling the poor folks whose lives were ruined?

RICO should have been used to take everything and sell all the possessions to pay the people he stole from. Family whining leaves me no option but to watch some other show.
Who really cares what she feels? She was married to him, knew what he was doing, and enjoyed the fruits of his crimes and now she wants us to care about how/what she knew? Shoule have blown the whistle and cut him off as soon as possible.

I hope to God that your network, or any individual watching, does not take anything this thief of millions, believes anything that she says. This woman makes me want to puke. She knew what Bernie was doing, and we all know it. She has most likely hidden millions for herself, knowing that once Bernie was put away, she could live a lavish life, and no one would be the wiser. I've watched 60 minutes religously for years, but will not watch this one. For your network to air this persons face, or story, is beyond understanding.

it began, and not just recently, she's NOT that naive!
CBS, you should stop being a platform for white collar criminals
to use, after they have ripped off America or Americans!
They've done enough harm, don't help them do more by allowing
them to lie and spread disinformation about their activities!
After all, it's doubtful they're going to tell the truth, is it?!
