John "Junior" Gotti Wants to Write True Crime Novels

NEW YORK (CBS/AP) John "Junior" Gotti, the son of famed Gambino mob boss John Gotti, claimed at his recent New York trial that he didn't know much about crime. He had left his father's world behind him in 1999, he said.

Four hung juries in a row bought some portion of that story. And now, as the government says it will not try him a fifth time for allegedly ordering a series of murders, Junior says he is hoping to sell a few more stories - as a professional crime writer.

Jeron Lewis Video: Southern Indiana Center Mysteriously Dies on Basketball Court

OWENSBORO, Ky. (CBS/AP) Mystery surrounds the Thursday death of Jeron Lewis, a Southern Indiana basketball player who collapsed on the court during a game at Kentucky Wesleyan.

Southern Indiana spokesman Dan McDonnell says witnesses saw Lewis hit his head when he fell under the basket with about 4 minutes left in Thursday night's game. He was rushed to an Owensboro, Ky., hospital where he died about 10 p.m.

An autopsy was scheduled for Friday morning. The school scheduled a news conference for Friday afternoon.

Haiti Earthquake News: Main Prison Destroyed, 4,000 Prisoners Escape

NEW YORK (CBS/AP) Amidst the horror and devastation of the massive 7.0 earthquake that has rocked Haiti, almost all of the 4,000 inmates in the capital's main prison have escaped.

"They obviously took advantage of this disaster," Marcal Izard, a spokesman for the International Red Cross, said.

CNN's Anderson Cooper visited the jail in Port-au-Prince and filed a report Friday. "We heard the prison was destroyed. We didn't realize we'd find the door wide open," he said.

Scott Ritter, Former U.N. Weapons Inspector, Busted in Teen Sex Sting

STROUDSBURG, Pa. (CBS/AP) Scott Ritter, a former U.N. weapons inspector in Iraq and a strong George W. Bush critic during the second Gulf War, is now facing child-sex charges after he allegedly sent a web cam video of himself masturbating to an undercover agent.

Ritter is charged in Pennsylvania with unlawful sexual contact with a minor for alleged online exchanges with police posing as a 15-year-old girl. The Pocono Record first reported the case Thursday.

Mohammed Chowdhury's Genitals Missing After Accused Wife Killer Takes Own Life in Jail

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (CBS/AP) Mohammed Abdul-Fazal Chowdhury, a Michigan man accused of killing his wife last September, took his own life in his jail cell last Friday, but not before cutting off his own genitals, according to Macomb County police. And according to a Detroit news station, jail officials are still looking for his severed penis.

Sheriff Mark Hackel said the body of 22-year-old Mohammed Abdul-Fazal Chowdhury was discovered alone about 4 p.m. Friday at the Macomb County Jail about 20 miles northeast of Detroit. Hackel said Chowdhury sliced an artery in his neck with a razor blade from a shaving tool available through the jail's commissary. His genitals had also been severed according to Click On Detroit, but police could not find them.

Hackel told The Detroit News that Chowdhury was pronounced dead at the scene.

Joe Rollino, Strongman Who Lifted 475 Pounds with Teeth, Struck Dead by Van at 104

NEW YORK (CBS/AP) Joe Rollino was strong enough to lift 635 pounds with one finger and 475 pounds with his teeth, but the Coney Island strongman, couldn't beat a swerving minivan.

Joe Rollino - once dubbed the "World's Strongest Man" - died Monday at 104.

Rollino was struck as he crossed a major street in Brooklyn, and suffered a broken pelvis, head trauma and broken ribs. He died a few hours later at an area hospital.

John Michael Farren, George Bush's Old Lawyer, Tried to Kill Wife Mary Farren, Say Connecticut Cops

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (CBS/AP) John Michael Farren, a onetime top attorney to former President George W. Bush, tried to kill his wife by choking her and beating her with a flashlight in their Connecticut home, according to police.

The 57-year-old is charged with strangulation and attempted murder. He was ordered held Thursday on $2 million bail.

His lawyer Eugene Riccio calls it "a tragic situation."
