(CBS/KCBS/AP) GILROY, Calif.  - A Northern California man could go to jail for life for allegedly killing a Chihuahua thanks to the state's "three strikes law."

Bud Wally Ruiz was charged Wednesday with two felony counts of cruelty to animals after reportedly throwing the 6-week-old dog across the room during an argument with his wife. In addition, Ruiz is suspected of assaulting his wife before fleeing and was charged with a misdemeanor count of spousal battery.

(CBS/WBZ/AP) SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - The person who dumped an unidentified young boy's body on the side of a road in South Berwick, Maine may be a member of the military, police say.

"We're starting to think that way because we just got no information from any neighbors, any family members...Maybe these people are...assigned a temporary duty in the military and aren't that well known or embedded into the community and again would have family outside of the state or outside of the region," State Police Lt. Brian McDonough said, according to ABC News.

Derrick Trevor Griffin was detained and charged with intentional second-degree murder shortly after Kristopher Miller was found shot to death on a city street on Wednesday, May 11, reports CBS station WCCO.
