(CBS) PALO ALTO, Calif - Police have charged a 46-year-old woman with felony child abuse after she allegedly bit a toddler and an infant in a bookstore.

CNN reports that Polly Beltramo was arrested Thursday after fleeing the bookstore and being found in a nearby coffee shop.

Report: 3 dead in N.C. workplace shooting

(CBS) STAR, N.C. - At least three people are dead in a workplace shooting at a lumber company in North Carolina.

According to WXII-TV, Sheriff Dempsey Owens said a gunman entered the McBride Lumber Company early Friday morning and began shooting, killing three and injuring at least one more.

Man's $10,000 Nike Air Jordan collection stolen

(CBS/AP) CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A North Carolina man has reported that his collection of 30 pairs of Nike Air Jordan shoes was stolen from his home Monday.

NBC affiliate WCNC-TV reports that burglary investigators with the Charlotte Police Department are working on the case. The collection of sought-after Nike sneakers is thought to be worth $10,000.

(CBS/AP) - WYANDOTTE, Mich. - A 9-year-old girl who endured cyber-bullying because of her diagnosis of Huntington's disease has died.

Kathleen Edward's plight made national news in 2010 when a former neighbor posted pictures on Facebook that pictured the then 7-year-old above a set of crossbones, and one with the little girl's mother, Laura Edward, who died of Huntington's disease in 2009, in the arms of the grim reaper.

(CBS/AP) - Joran van der Sloot faces up to 30 years in prison when he is sentenced today for the murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores in Peru, reports CNN.

On Wednesday, Van der Sloot pleaded "anticipated conclusion of the process," admitting he strangled Flores in a Lima hotel room five years to the day after American student Natalee Holloway went missing in Aruba. Van der Sloot has long been a suspect in her disappearance.

Francisco Javier Rodriguez, Jr. was shot to death Wednesday night in front of his home. Investigators say the killing wasn't a random act.

Boy hid under bedsheets, called 911 on burglar

(CBS/AP) WEST COVINA, Calif. - A 15-year-old boy hid under his bedsheets and called police as a burglar rummaged through his southern California home, police say.

Deputies caught a burglary suspect Wednesday after the teenager called authorities from his bed around 11 a.m. Lt. John McBride said the boy called 911, saying he heard someone break into the home in Valina.

Judge formally declares Natalee Holloway dead

(CBS/AP) BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - An Alabama judge Thursday signed an order declaring Natalee Holloway legally dead, more than six years after then teenager vanished in Aruba.

Judge Alan King announced his decision at a hearing requested by David Holloway, Natalee's father. He told the judge in September he believed his daughter had died and he wanted to stop paying her medical insurance and use her college fund for her brother.

Calif. teacher arrested for alleged sex assaults

(CBS/AP) LIVERMORE, Calif. - A 40-year old California math teacher has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old student, Livermore police said.

CBS San Francisco reports authorities received information Tuesday that Marie Johnson, a teacher at Granada High School, supposedly engaged in sexual relations with a minor.
