Extradition hearing set for Van der Sloot in Peru

(CBS/AP) LIMA, Peru - A Peruvian judge has set a May 8 hearing to consider a U.S. request to extradite convicted killer Joran van der Sloot so he can be tried for extortion in connection with the unsolved disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalie Holloway in 2005.

Gay Ill. St. student says attack was hate crime

(CBS) DEERFIELD, Ill. - An Illinois State University student who was beaten over the weekend claims he was targeted because he's gay.

CBS Chicago reports that Eric Unger, who was beaten so badly his jaw had to be wired shut, was attacked early Saturday morning.

Police say a mother stabbed her infant daughter in the chest and neck at a social services building in East Baltimore.

(CBS/WJZ/AP) BALTIMORE - A woman's alleged stabbing of her baby in a Baltimore city government building is raising questions of security.

According to CBS Baltimore, police say the mother was at a social services visit in East Baltimore Tuesday morning when she suddenly became irate, pulled out a long kitchen knife, and  stabbed her infant daughter in the neck and upper body.

Police: Heart patient, 5, abducted from hospital

(CBS/AP) ST. LOUIS - St. Louis police have issued arrest warrants for the father and paternal grandmother of 5-year-old Porter Stone, who they say was taken from a hospital where he was on a transplant waiting list.

Police Wednesday said the boy was found safe, and there are  warrants out for 33-year-old Jeffery Stone and his mother, Rhonda Marie Matthews, for kidnapping, interfering with custody and endangering the welfare of a child.
