CHICAGO (CBS/AP) Seven rape kits were left rotting in an unplugged refrigerator of the Ford Heights, Ill. police department that shut down two years ago - including one sexual assault kit that police said has now linked a man to the 2006 rape of a 13-year-old girl. In addition to the rape kits, nearly 200 guns and hundreds of bags of narcotics were found in a neglected evidence room, officials said Friday.Continue »

NEW YORK (CBS) The NY Post reports that a pair described as "good ol' country boys" needed no prompting to confess their alleged laundry list of crimes to Port Authority cops in New Jersey.

The big-mouthed men, who were visiting New York from Tennessee, were pulled over when officers noticed their 1994 Acura Integra's tinted windows and missing license plate, according to the Post.

ROCKVILLE, Maryland (CBS/AP) Renee Bowman maintained the cold, inscrutable demeanor she has displayed throughout her murder trial as a judge sentenced her to two consecutive life sentences plus 75 years for the torture and murder of two of her foster daughters, whose bodies she stored in a freezer for months after they were killed.

"I am very sorry for the abuse of the girls," she told Montgomery County Circuit Judge Michael J. Algeo, displaying no emotion. "It haunts me. It haunts me every day."

PITTSBURGH (CBS/KDKA/AP) William Page has been convicted of first-degree murder for leaving his 23-month-old daughter outside to freeze to death after sexually abusing her.

Page's daughter, Nyia, was found dead in February 2007. Page molested the girl then became angry because she kept removing her diaper. He then left her outside in freezing temperatures. Nyia's body was found in a wooded area of Rankin, Pa., east of Pittsburgh.Continue »

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (CBS/KCNC/AP) Colorado state trooper David Nolan has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving while he was in uniform in a marked patrol car.

Authorities said the 48-year-old was arrested by Douglas County sheriff's deputies at about 7 a.m. Monday on Interstate 25 near Castle Rock, about 25 miles south of Denver.

Douglas County officials said their dispatch center received several calls from drivers concerned about a marked Colorado State Patrol vehicle driving erratically.Continue »

Casey Anthony, Accused Baby Killer, Declared Indigent Despite $200,000 Pictures Payoff

ORLANDO, Fla. (CBS/AP) The state of Florida will be saddled with much of the bill for defending Casey Anthony, accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter Caylee in the summer of 2008, after a judge ruled that she qualifies as indigent, despite having been paid $200,000 for her personal photographs by ABC News.

Kim Peno Went off Meds and Beat Her Child to Death, Say Police

REHOBOTH, Mass. (CBS/AP) Kim Peno, a 38-year-old mother charged with beating her 2-year-old son to death, apparently has a history of mental illness, and reportedly had been off her medication for two weeks before the alleged fatal beating on Friday, said CBS affiliate WBZ.

Peno pleaded not guilty to the charges on Monday, and asked a judge to allow her to attend her son's funeral. The judge turned down her request.
